Stomp Under Foot Electric Warlord Fuzz

Fuzz

The Electric Warlord is a hand-made fuzz pedal from Stomp Under Foot, a builder based in Florida1. It sits in the velcro fuzz camp: tight, aggressive and mid-focused rather than the sputtering, octave-heavy style of some fuzz designs. When it launched in October 2022, Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described it as "a velcroy, tight, aggressive fuzz that's bound to excite the testosterone of heavy-leaning guitarists"1.

"The velcro-like fuzz is massive, tight and has lots of clarity. This is great for all tunings and lots of styles from rock to stoner to doom to shoegaze."
Paolo De Gregorio, Delicious Audio1

What it does

The Electric Warlord covers a wide sweep of fuzz textures. At lower Fuzz settings it can deliver a gated-like fuzz, the kind of chopped, almost synth-like sustain that works well on leads; the maker's product page on RockBoard's PedalPedia makes the same point, noting that with the gain turned all the way down you get that gated character12. Turn the Fuzz knob up and the pedal moves into its full velcro territory.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
FuzzSets the amount of fuzz; Delicious Audio noted "a great range on the fuzz knob"1
MidsA filter knob for sculpting the midrange1
ToneA second filter knob for overall tone shaping1

The two filter knobs are what set the pedal apart from simpler two-knob fuzzes. As De Gregorio put it, "The two filter knobs (Mids and Tone) are very useful and open up a lot of sculpting options"1. For players in drop tunings or bands that sit low in the mix, that midrange control is the difference between a fuzz that disappears behind the guitars and one that cuts through.

Where it fits in the Stomp Under Foot range

Stomp Under Foot builds a wide line of fuzzes, many of them recreations of classic Big Muff circuits, such as the Ram's Head, the Green Russian and the Civil War. The Electric Warlord is one of the builder's original designs rather than a vintage recreation, and it leans harder into the velcro and gated textures than those Big Muff-style pedals. Players looking for a similar stoner and desert rock flavor from the same builder can also compare the Sonic Generator. For more on the effect type itself, see Fuzz Pedals.

Questions

What kind of fuzz is the Electric Warlord?

It is a hand-made fuzz pedal from Stomp Under Foot, a builder based in Florida. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described it as a velcro-like fuzz that is massive, tight and has lots of clarity, suited to everything from rock and stoner to doom and shoegaze. At lower Fuzz settings it can also deliver a gated-like fuzz, which works well on leads.

What controls does the Electric Warlord have?

The pedal has a Fuzz knob, which Delicious Audio noted has a great range, plus two filter knobs labeled Mids and Tone. Those two filters open up a lot of sculpting options, letting players shape the midrange and overall tone of the fuzz rather than working with a single tone control.
