Stone Deaf FX Black Kliptonite

The Stone Deaf FX Black Kliptonite is a limited-run Black Edition version of the company's Kliptonite pedal. It puts two circuits in one box: Stone Deaf's Velcro Fuzz circuit and its Tube Sound overdrive, which can be mixed together in different ratios¹. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the design as signal-splitting, so you can blend overdrive and fuzz in various ratios for distinct tones².

That makes it a hybrid of two effect types at once: part fuzz, part overdrive. Where a player would normally run a fuzz pedal into a drive pedal and balance them with pedal order and level controls, the Kliptonite does the blending inside a single enclosure¹².

What the Black Edition adds

The Black Edition version adds a parametric EQ to the mix, to further enhance the tone¹. A parametric EQ gives control over selected frequency bands, so the tone shaping sits alongside the fuzz and overdrive blend rather than being a fixed voicing.

Jef, writing for gearnews.com, summed up the concept this way:

The Black Edition pairs the two circuits with a parametric EQ that Stone Deaf FX says further enhances the tone¹. As Jef of gearnews.com put it on 9 April 2023:

Where it sits among Stone Deaf's pedals

The Black Kliptonite was announced alongside other updated Black Edition pedals from Stone Deaf FX, including the Black Fig Fumb¹.
