The Studio Daydream Dhyana Overdrive V2.5 is a handmade overdrive pedal, an entry in the overdrive family built around a rare original. Pedal of the Day describes it as taking on "a super-rare pedal": the circuit is based on the Smoky Signal Tubeless Overdrive, specifically the Alpha tuning model1.
What it does
The Dhyana is a straightforward overdrive: it takes the circuit of the Smoky Signal Tubeless Overdrive, an obscure original that few players will have played, and puts it on a pedalboard in a current build. The reviewer's overall verdict was that the Dhyana does what the original was made to do, "with a rich, full sound at every setting"1.
"The Dhyana does just that, with a rich, full sound at every setting"
Where it came from
Studio Daydream Handmade Pedals is a small builder whose pedals have drawn strong words from reviewers: Pedal of the Day wrote that "two of the best Klon clones we've ever played came to us via [Studio Daydream Handmade Pedals]"1. The maker's other overdrives covered on this site include the Studio Daydream KCM-OD Gold V9.0 Overdrive, the Studio Daydream HMP Silver KCM-OD and the Studio Daydream JRM-OD Overdrive V5.0.
The Dhyana's circuit is a tribute to the Smoky Signal Tubeless Overdrive, an original that is itself hard to find. The V2.5 is the version Pedal of the Day reviewed in October 20221.
