The TC Electronic MojoMojo Overdrive Paul Gilbert Edition is a signature overdrive pedal from TC Electronic, built with Paul Gilbert on the company's existing MojoMojo circuit. It was announced in early June 2021, a week after TC Electronic's Zeus Drive launch1. Gilbert had long been associated with the original MojoMojo: MusicRadar's overdrive buying guide notes the pedal "has been used by none other than virtuoso Paul Gilbert"2, and TC Electronic asked him to work on a special edition of the pedal bearing his name3.
The idea behind the pedal is simple. Gilbert always uses the same settings on his own MojoMojo, so the signature version is designed to reproduce that tone straight out of the box, with the voicing decisions already made for the player45.
What it does
The pedal is an overdrive, and like the standard MojoMojo it carries the classic control set: Drive, Level, Bass, and Treble knobs are all here, carried over from the original6. What you get on top of the original is a fixed voice, a gain-boost switch, and a higher internal operating voltage.
Pedal of the Day reviewed the pedal in August 2024 and described the result of the voltage change in the maker's terms: TC Electronic added stepped-up circuit board voltage, "giving you dramatically increased headroom and dynamics for an incredibly alive and soaring overdrive, keeping your tone crisp, but not toasted"6. Delicious Audio's product page sums up the feature set as "an extra gain mod switch, high headroom and precise controls"3.
The reviewer's overall verdict:
"this versatile yet simplistic effects unit is easy to dial in and sounds just fantastic"6

From the MojoMojo to the Paul Gilbert edition
The Paul Gilbert Edition builds on the MojoMojo circuit, with some twists to the circuit via Paul himself6. Delicious Audio describes it as "a version of the MojoMojo with a couple of tweaks to the circuit"3. Guitar World reported at launch that the pedal is designed to reproduce the same tone Gilbert uses on his own personal MojoMojo pedal5.
The original MojoMojo launched with a $177 MSRP in January 2011, alongside TC Electronic's Dark Matter distortion7. Gilbert's own connection to it goes back years: Guitar World called it "Gilbert's old fave" in a 2019 story about his work with JHS Pedals8.
What changed for the signature edition
| Change | Detail |
|---|---|
| Voice switch removed | Gilbert always uses the same settings, so there was no need for the additional Voice switch found on the original96 |
| One voice | The pedal has just one voice, slightly tweaked to provide an overdrive sound for Gilbert's taste4 |
| 11 switch added | The Voice switch was swapped out for a new 11 switch6 |
| Stepped-up voltage | Higher circuit board voltage for increased headroom and dynamics6 |
| New look | Purple enclosure, with Gilbert's name below the pedal's4 |
At the time of the June 2021 announcement, Gearnews noted it was not clear whether the original circuit had been tweaked for Gilbert or whether it was a new paint job and rebadging of the original pedal1. Later coverage, including Pedal of the Day's 2024 review, treats the circuit changes, the stepped-up voltage in particular, as real6.
The 11 switch
The switch in the center of the pedal now says 11, where the original's Voice switch sat1. Guitar World and GuitarPlayer both describe what it does, in TC Electronic's own explanation of the design:
"Instead, we went for an Eleven switch that engages a massive gain boost for even more drive and attack, taking it to"59

In other words, where the standard MojoMojo lets you choose between two voices, the Paul Gilbert Edition instead gives you one voice and a big gain jump on top of it, the joke being that it goes one louder than ten46.
Price and availability
Guitar.com reported a price tag of $69 for the pedal at announcement4. Earlier the same day, GuitarPlayer had reported that a price and release date had yet to be announced9, so the $69 figure is the later, dated one.
Coverage of this pedal appeared under several names at launch, including the MojoMojo Paul Gilbert Overdrive, the Paul Gilbert signature MojoMojo, and the MojoMojo Overdrive Paul Gilbert Edition. They are the same pedal.

Questions
What is different about the Paul Gilbert MojoMojo compared with the standard MojoMojo?
The Paul Gilbert Edition drops the original's Voice switch, since Gilbert always uses the same voice setting on his own MojoMojo. It adds an 11 switch that engages a massive gain boost, steps up the circuit board voltage for more headroom and dynamics, and comes in a purple enclosure with Gilbert's name on the front.
Does the Paul Gilbert MojoMojo have a Voice switch?
No. The original MojoMojo's Voice switch was swapped out for the new 11 switch. Because Paul Gilbert always uses the same settings on his own MojoMojo, there was no need for the additional Voice switch, so the pedal has just one voice, tweaked to his taste.
What does the 11 switch do on the Paul Gilbert MojoMojo?
The 11 switch engages a massive gain boost for even more drive and attack. It sits in the center of the pedal where the original MojoMojo's Voice switch was, and it is the pedal's reference to going one louder than ten.
How much does the Paul Gilbert MojoMojo cost?
Guitar.com reported a price tag of $69 when TC Electronic announced the pedal in June 2021. At the original MojoMojo's launch in 2011, TC Electronic listed it at a $177 MSRP.
