The Fat Guy Little Coat Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Thirty7 FX, a BC108/109 silicon fuzz based on the old school Colorsound Fuzz Box circuit. Pedal of the Day describes it as "giving the user a wide range of sounds, volumes and, most importantly, fuzzes"1.
What it does
The pedal is built around a single dial. As Pedal of the Day puts it, "as you slowly turn the lone dial clockwise, everything begins to increase in intensity and excitement"1. At the low end of its range, the reviewer found "it starts off slow and low, with both the Volume and Fuzz in the low-gain area at lower levels," with no shortage of output level1. That makes the knob do the work of both volume and fuzz in one sweep, from a quieter, lower-gain voice up to a full fuzz.
The circuit follows the Colorsound Fuzz Box, a silicon design using BC108/109 transistors, which places it in the family of old-school silicon fuzzes rather than the germanium designs some other fuzz pedals use1.
Design and build
The PCB design work was done by Alex from Coppersound Pedals. Pedal of the Day's reviewer wrote that "the quality absolutely shines through build quality"1.
