ThorpyFX Electric Lightning Maud NOS Edition

The ThorpyFX Electric Lightning Maud NOS Edition is a limited signature version of the Chris Buck signature Electric Lightning Plexi-style Tube Preamp + Boost, a valve-driven overdrive and boost pedal. ThorpyFX and Chris Buck collaborated on the original as a signature valve overdrive and boost, and the Maud NOS Edition carries that design with a different valve and a different look¹.

What it does

Like the standard Electric Lightning, the pedal covers overdrive, boost and equalizer duties. ThorpyFX describes the Electric Lightning as designed specifically not to be a "one trick pony" and to suit any playing style¹². The Maud NOS Edition differs from the standard in the valve it runs: it uses a NOS JAN 12AT7 valve, of which the maker says he only has a finite number. According to ThorpyFX, that valve gives the Electric Lightning a little less gain than the standard¹.

The Maud NOS Edition

ThorpyFX positions this version as a collector-flavored take on the pedal rather than a separate circuit family¹:

• It is the first in the maker's MAUD Committee special releases¹
• It was released to the maker's mailing list first, and depending on valve stock possibly only to that list¹
• It uses a NOS JAN 12AT7 valve, available to the maker in only a finite number¹
• It carries Marshall style knobs, which the maker says makes this version extra special¹
• The enclosure has special artwork depicting the Mach loop in the Welsh valleys¹

Price and related pedals

ThorpyFX lists the Maud NOS Edition at £429.00 GBP as of 25 October 2026¹. The pedal sits in a ThorpyFX range that includes other overdrive and boost designs such as the ThorpyFX Heavy Water MKII Dual High Headroom Boost and ThorpyFX The Dane, and it belongs to the wider families of overdrive pedals and boost pedals.
