The Twilight Pulse Audioworks Konstante is an analog overdrive pedal with two circuits in one enclosure: an overdrive side based on the Greer Lightspeed, and a boost side inspired by the preamp of an old Echoplex tape delay12. A toggle switch in the middle lets you change the order of the two circuits, so the drive can feed the boost or the boost can feed the drive1.

RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the drive circuit as an overdrive based on a modern legend that conquered the speed of light, with four diodes arranged in an asymmetrical clipping configuration, a higher gain range, and more headroom courtesy of an internal charge pump3. Guitar.com's reviewer, Richard Purvis, called it a lovely medium-gain overdrive that feels as natural as it sounds, and rated the pedal 9 out of 101.

What the Konstante does to your sound

The overdrive side is voiced around the Greer Lightspeed, a boutique overdrive that Guitar Pedal X notes supposedly evolved from the same source as the Timmy25. Twilight Pulse's version keeps that character but pushes further, with the asymmetrical diode arrangement and the internal charge pump giving it more gain and more headroom than the original circuit34.

The boost side works differently. Guitar.com found it even closer to transparency than the drive, giving a lift to the top and bottom ends of the spectrum while softening spiky mids by default1. That is the classic Echoplex-preamp trick: the preamp of the old tape delay was prized for the way it sweetened a signal rather than simply making it louder2.

Pedal of the Day summed up the overall character in its 2024 review46:

"the Konstante brings amp-like response with just the right amount of gain, sustain and clarity for any set up."4

Guitar.com's reviewer heard a laid-back fluffiness on the overdrive side, slightly more tonally transparent than the Coggins Audio Dinosaural Hy with a hint of mid sweetening and a fresh, zingy top end1.

Controls and switching

The pedal keeps its control set simple. Three knobs belong to the drive side and one to the boost, and each circuit has its own bypass footswitch, so you can run the overdrive alone, the boost alone, or both together1.

ControlWhat it does
Output level (drive)Sets the output volume of the overdrive side1
Gain (drive)Sets the amount of overdrive1
Tone (drive)Shapes the frequency balance of the drive1
Level (boost/preamp)Sets the amount of lift from the Echoplex-style preamp1
Order toggleSwitches which circuit comes first in the chain1

The two bypass footswitches sit about as far apart on the enclosure as they could be without falling off the edges, one for each circuit1. Pedal of the Day called the order switch a feature that brings more versatility to an already versatile Swiss Army knife of a drive pedal4.

Where it came from and how it is built

The Konstante is built in Germany1. Its design joins two well-known reference points in one box: the Lightspeed-style transparent overdrive on the left, and the Echoplex-preamp-inspired boost on the right2. The internal charge pump is the maker's own addition, raising the headroom so the drive stays cleaner at higher settings than the original circuit would allow34.

The standard finish is white. A limited-edition Pelham Blue colorway was produced for UK dealer Northern Stompboxes1.

The Pelham Blue Konstante is a dealer-exclusive colorway, not a different circuit. The standard version ships in white1.

What reviewers said

Guitar.com's Richard Purvis reviewed the pedal in March 2026 and rated it 9, calling it a superb little stompbox1:

"Lovely medium-gain overdrive that feels as natural as it sounds"1

He found the boost circuit just as good as the drive side, and praised the flexibility of being able to reorder the two circuits1. Pedal of the Day, reviewing it in February 2024, highlighted its dynamics and touch responsiveness, describing a smooth overdrive with what the site called the perfect amount of grit and punch that adds to your sound without being overbearing4.

How it differs from the Proxima Overdrive Fuzz

Twilight Pulse also makes the Proxima Overdrive Fuzz, a sibling pedal in the maker's range. Where the Proxima covers dirtier, fuzzier ground, the Konstante is an overdrive pedal based on a modern legend, with four diodes arranged in an asymmetrical configuration, a higher gain range and more headroom3. In short: the Konstante covers medium-gain overdrive and clean lift; the Proxima covers fuzzier territory.
