The Tym Guitars Reverse Big Mudd is a fuzz pedal built around one of the rarer chapters of Big Muff history: the 'Reverse Graphic' V6 model. Tym Guitars, the Australian maker based at TYM's Guitar Shop in Brisbane, builds the pedal as its take on that circuit1.
What it does
As a fuzz in the Big Muff family, the Reverse Big Mudd delivers the saturated, sustaining distortion that circuit is known for, but with a voicing of its own. The reviewer Mike, writing on Pedal of the Day, described the tonal difference plainly1:
"This thing has more upper mids than any Big Muff I've tried."
That upper-mid push matters in a band setting. The same reviewer found it helped the pedal sit forward in a mix where other Big Muffs tend to recede1:
"I can get a thicker lead tone out of it and it doesn't get lost in the mix like most Muffs."
He went as far as preferring it to the lead tone of his own vintage 1973 EH Ram's Head Big Muff, a pedal often held up as a benchmark of the breed1.
Availability
The Reverse Big Mudd is a small-shop build rather than a mass-produced pedal. When Pedal of the Day featured it in March 2015, the reviewer noted that a lot of Tym's pedal line was sold out at the time, which is typical of limited-run boutique production1. Mike also reported keeping one on his own board, writing that "The Tym is on my board and will probably be there for a long time"1.
Boutique pedals like this one are built in small runs and availability changes often. The 2015 review noted much of the line was sold out at the time1.
