The Vaderin SAF / HP-X Percolator Distortion / Fuzz is a fuzz and distortion pedal in the Harmonic Percolator style, made by Vaderin Custom Audio Machines. Guitar Pedal X listed it at $169 USD as of 13 May 2024, in a roundup of fuzz pedals connected to the Harmonic Percolator format.1

What it does

The pedal carries three controls: Harmonics, Balance, and a Clipping selector with germanium, none, and silicon positions. The Harmonics control sets the amount of gain character, the Balance sets the level or mix, and the Clipping switch lets the player choose between germanium diode clipping, no clipping, and silicon diode clipping, which changes how hard and how open the drive sounds.1

Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described the pedal's controls as "Controls - Harmonics, Balance, Clipping : Ge / None / Si."1

The two variants

Vaderin offers the Percolator circuit in two forms. Karlsson wrote that "Vaderin seems to have 2 variants of percolator - the slightly louder enclosure SAF variety, and the more minimalist HP-X", with the HP-X appearing in numerous different colourways.1

  • SAF: the fuller enclosure variety, described as slightly louder1
  • HP-X: the more minimalist variety, available in numerous colourways1
