The Warm Audio ODD Over Driver Disorder is an overdrive pedal from Warm Audio, the Austin-based effects company. Guitar World described it as "quite clearly the Austin-based company's take on Fulltone's popular OCD overdrive", built around Warm Audio's vow to deliver "all the sound of a cranked, saturated tube amp" through a hard-clipping, op-amp-based circuit. At a list price of $119, Guitar World called it "a very attractive alternative in the wake of the OCD's demise".1
What it does
The ODD gives a player two amp-style voicings from one pedal. Its toggle switch selects between them: Guitar World describes the UK setting as "vying for a cranked, chimey amp tone" and the US setting as offering "an edge-of-breakup punch". In practice that means one position pushes toward the sound of a British-style amp pushed hard, and the other sits at the point where a cleaner amp starts to break up.1
Design and construction
Warm Audio leaned into faithful construction. Guitar World noted that the company "has committed to the OCD bit, opting for a faithful through-hole construction, TLO82CP Op-Amp and 2N7000 transistors, and hand-selected capacitors". Through-hole construction means the components are mounted through the circuit board rather than surface-mounted, the approach used in the older pedals this design references.1
The outside matches that approach. Guitar World wrote that "that white enclosure, three-knob layout and toggle switch placement are all a dead-ringer for the OCD", so a player familiar with the Fulltone pedal will find the layout immediately familiar.1
Where it sits in Warm Audio's range
The ODD is one of several overdrives in the Warm Audio line, alongside the Throne of Tone, the Tube Squealer, the Centavo and the ODD Box. Guitar World's verdict on the ODD was that it "marks a very attractive alternative in the wake of the OCD's demise", positioning it as a way to get that style of circuit after the original was no longer made.1
