Warm Audio

25 pedals on Tonebox

Warm Audio is a Texas-based gear maker that began with studio equipment, tube compressors, equalizers and the like, and then expanded into guitar pedals1. That studio background still shows in the pedal line: the Pedal76 compressor pedal grew out of the company's rack-mounted WA76, itself a recreation of the Universal Audio 11762. The company's approach to pedals is the same one it applies across its range: take a classic circuit and rebuild it, often in a smaller, more pedalboard-friendly form.

From studio gear to guitar pedals

GuitarPlayer's review of the Dirty Boy Jr. describes the company's path plainly: founder Bryce Young "began with studio gear (tube compressors, equalizers and such), then expanded into guitar pedals"1. Warm Audio's MOD Series pages frame the pedal line the same way, as "classic recreations, redesigned for today's pedalboards with slimmer footprints and modern features on select models"3.

The studio heritage carries into utility features players do not always expect on recreations. The Pedal76, for example, adds switches for input sensitivity, ground/lift, pad and high/low gain modes for DI operation, plus a balanced DI output that can go straight to a mixer24. The WA-C1 chorus and vibrato lets you dial depth back beyond what the vintage pedal it recreates could do2.

Known for recreating classic circuits

Recreation is the through-line of the catalog. Guitar.com called the Warm Bender "the US brand's latest 'very faithful tribute' to a classic pedal," a take on the Tone Bender in a pedalboard-friendly footprint78. The Warmdrive is described by the maker as "a true reproduction of the most sought-after 'amp-in-a-box' pedal of all time," and by Delicious Audio as one of the most sought-after pedals inspired by hand and custom-made Dumble amplifiers910. The Centavo overdrive launched alongside it in October 2022, with both available at launch11.

The pattern repeats across effect types:

PedalTypeWhat it recreates
WarmdriveOverdriveA sought-after amp-in-a-box pedal and the Dumble-style amps behind it910
CentavoOverdriveA classic overdrive, launched with the Warmdrive11

On the ODD Box, Warm Audio does not name the pedal behind it. The product page calls it a hard-clipping overdrive "inspired by an iconic pedalboard staple known for having a 'cranked amp' tone"12. Fulltone's own pages list the OCD range of overdrives, with "500K+ OCD pedals sold"15.

The company also works with partners and artists. Dirty Boy partnered with Warm Audio to recreate the acclaimed Preamp circuit in the Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive16, and the range includes a matching high-headroom boost pedal17. The Fluff Drive is Warm Audio's first signature pedal, a limited edition amp-driving overdrive built with YouTube creator Ryan "Fluff" Bruce, with modded mid enhance, low boost and variable noise gate controls618. The Jet Phaser is a six-mode pedal19. More recent overdrives include the Tube Squealer and Throne of Tone, two new overdrive pedals covered by Guitar World20.

Reviewers have generally found the recreations hold up. Gearnews' first look at the Warmdrive and Centavo concluded that "Warm Audio Warmdrive and Centavo are both excellent pedal effects" that "see eye-to-eye with their originals and fit a variety of setups"21. Pedal of the Day called the Warmdrive "yet another pedal from Warm Audio that you plug in and instantly go 'WOW!'"22. The gearnews writer behind the Fluff Drive story added a personal note: "I own a few of their pedals, and they are robust and sound great"23.

Guitar World's demo video covers the Tube Squealer and Throne of Tone, two new overdrive pedals from Warm Audio20.

Founder Bryce Young

Bryce Young founded the company and steered it from studio gear into pedals1. He is quoted in MusicRadar's coverage of the WA-C1 and Pedal76 launch, describing the pair as applying "the Warm formula" to "the OG of bold chorus sounds" and to studio compression4.
