The Warm Audio Pedal76 is an all-analog, transformer-balanced FET compressor pedal, built to put the compression of Warm Audio's rack-mounted WA76 on a pedalboard. Warm Audio says the pedal accurately reproduces one of the fastest and most powerful studio compressors of all time, known for ultra-fast attack and release, and backs it with more than ten years of experience building the WA76 studio unit1.

The pedal was unveiled in September 2024 as one of two vintage-inspired analog pedals from the company, applying a FET-driven compression circuit to marshal your transients, as MusicRadar put it at launch2. Guitar World described it as Warm Audio repackaging its rack-mounted WA76, a recreation of the Universal Audio 1176, into an all-analog pedal3.

A FET compressor with transformer drive

FET compression is the family of circuit design behind the classic studio limiters of the 1960s and 1970s, where a field-effect transistor controls the gain of the audio path and reacts very quickly to transients. Warm Audio already builds this design as a rack unit: the WA76 is a discrete FET compressor that the company says delivers the same performance as vintage "Rev D" FET compressors, and it lists applications such as tight, deep bass for that unit4. The Pedal76 carries the same approach into pedal form, with a custom CineMag USA transformer in the signal path1.

Warm Audio says that transformer adds rich harmonic content, and that in high gain mode it produces a bit of audible overdrive reminiscent of the most prized studio originals1. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio put it in similar terms: "Crank the levels to enjoy the gritty saturation and harmonic richness that make FET compression legendary."5

Warm Audio also points to the studio units' pedigree, describing the compression tones as favored by celebrated artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Periphery and Jack White1.

The controls

On the front panel, the Pedal76 has Attack and Release, Ratio, and Input controls1. The Input control sets how hard the compressor is pushed, and the Ratio control sets how much compression is applied. MusicRadar notes that at higher settings, ratios of 12:1 or 20:1, the Pedal76 performs as a limiter, while lower ratios work as conventional compression2.

The rear panel carries four switches that Delicious Audio says Warm Audio added for enhanced performance5:

  • FX Bypass: selects buffered or true bypass3
  • Input Sensitivity: matches the pedal to the incoming signal level5
  • Ground Lift: helps with ground loop hum5
  • Drive: raises the gain into the transformer for more saturation5

What reviewers said

In a 2026 compressor pedal buying guide, Guitar.com found the pedal's size worth weighing against its sound: "It is undeniably large and requires serious board space, but it rewards you with authentic analogue warmth and punch that digital emulations struggle to fully replicate."6

On the board and in the rig

The Pedal76 is a large-format pedal, and Guitar.com's reviewer noted it requires serious board space6. Where it earns that space, beyond the compression itself, is flexibility at the edges of the signal chain: the switchable buffered or true bypass3 lets it sit in a true-bypass board or act as a buffer, the balanced DI out sends a signal to any mixer or live recording rig1, and the Ground Lift switch addresses hum when the DI and amp outputs are used together5. Players comparing it with other dynamics tools will find it sits in the FET compressor corner of our compressor pedals guide.

Questions

Is the Warm Audio Pedal76 true bypass?

Yes. Guitar World reports the Pedal76 offers switchable buffered or true bypass, and the choice is made with an FX Bypass switch on the rear panel. That means you can run it true bypass to keep your signal untouched when the pedal is off, or switch to buffered mode if you prefer the pedal to drive longer cable runs.

Does the Pedal76 work with bass?

Yes. Warm Audio lists a Big Studio Bass application for electric bass on the Pedal76's product page, alongside Squishy Funk and Chicken Pickin' settings for electric guitar. The company describes the same FET compression approach as delivering tight, deep bass on its rack-mounted WA76.

Can the Pedal76 act as a limiter?

Yes. According to MusicRadar, at higher settings, ratios of 12:1 or 20:1, the Pedal76 performs as a limiter. At lower ratio settings it works as a conventional compressor, so the same pedal can cover gentle leveling and hard limiting depending on where the Ratio control is set.

What does the Ground Lift switch do on the Pedal76?

The Ground Lift is one of four rear-panel switches Warm Audio includes on the Pedal76, alongside FX Bypass, Input Sensitivity and Drive. Delicious Audio notes these switches were added for enhanced performance. A ground lift separates the pedal's ground from the signal path, which players use to tackle hum and buzz in a rig.

Does the Pedal76 have a DI output?

Yes. Warm Audio says the Pedal76 has a separate DI out that sends a balanced signal to any mixer or live recording rig. That lets a player send a clean, balanced feed to the front of house while the pedal's compressed signal continues to the amp.

Is the Pedal76 analog or digital?

The Pedal76 is all analog. Warm Audio describes it as an all-analog transformer-balanced FET compressor pedal, built with an all-analog circuit and premium components, including a custom CineMag USA transformer.
