The Knuckle Dragger is a limited edition fuzz pedal from Wilson Effects that takes the Super Fuzz circuit and adds controls the original never had. Wilson describes it as an octave fuzz capable of "Searing octave fuzz, velcro ripping fuzz, any iteration of octave fuzz tones is possible with this pedal!" The maker says the added controls allow you to dial in "everything from tight, compressed fuzz to wild, velcro-like textures."1
The Wilson Effects Knuckle Dragger is a Limited Edition release, and it is hand made from the highest quality components available today.1
The controls
Where the original Super Fuzz gave players a gain knob, a volume knob and a tone toggle, the Knuckle Dragger expands the layout to six controls. Wilson Effects describes them as follows:1
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Expand | Controls the amount of gain, just like on the original circuit1 |
| Balance | Functions as the volume control, just like the original Super Fuzz1 |
| Tone | Replaces the original toggle switch with a knob for precise tonal adjustments1 |
| Mids | A dedicated midrange control to help sculpt your tone1 |
| Evolve | Adjusts the openness of the fuzz; turn it down for a tight, compressed tone or up for a bigger, more expansive sound1 |
The Balance control is described on the maker's product page as "basically the volume knob" for the pedal.3 The Tone knob is the most visible change from the original circuit: swapping the Super Fuzz's two-position tone toggle for a continuous knob is what gives the player finer control over the voicing.1
A limited edition from the Super Fuzz circuit
The Knuckle Dragger is built around the Super Fuzz circuit, which Wilson Effects calls legendary, and enhances it with added controls for what the maker calls superior tonal flexibility.1 It sits in the Wilson Effects fuzz range alongside pedals like the Wilson Effects Fuzz MKIII, the Wilson Effects Mordant, the Wilson Effects NotRite and the Wilson Effects Octave Fuzz. For more on the effect type itself, see Fuzz Pedals and Octave & Pitch Pedals.
RockBoard's PedalPedia lists the pedal's circuit type as analog.2 The enclosure is, in the maker's words, "hand made from the highest quality components available today."3
Power, warranty and buying details
The pedal runs on a 9VDC 2.1mm center-negative power supply or a 9V battery, so it works with standard pedalboard power or on battery power.1 Wilson Effects backs it with a one-year warranty covering parts and labor.1
