The ZVEX Vexter Box of Rock is the Vexter Series version of ZVEX's Box of Rock distortion pedal. Vexter is ZVEX's line of pedals that carry printed graphics instead of the hand-painted artwork the company is known for, and the maker states plainly that nothing else changes: "The parts inside Vexters are identical to the hand painted pedals."1
The pedal documented here is the Vexter Series Box of Rock, made by ZVEX Effects.1
What it does
As a distortion pedal, the Box of Rock Vexter does what the original Box of Rock does, since the circuit is unchanged. The 25th Anniversary edition differs only in its appearance: ZVEX describes it as featuring "UV printed graphics to commemorate our 25th Anniversary."1
Pedal of the Day covered this edition in 2021 and made the same point about what did and did not change21:
"While the internal circuitry remains the same, the outer shell features UV painted graphics, commemorating 25 years in the effects industry"
For players comparing versions, the practical takeaway is simple: the Vexter Box of Rock is a lower-cost route to the same circuit as the hand-painted original, with printed artwork in place of paint. ZVEX has also extended the Box of Rock family in other directions, including the Double Rock Vexter, a two-in-one boost and distortion pedal originally designed for J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.2
