The Rocktron Replifex is a rack-mount guitar effects processor from Rocktron, whose manual describes it as providing "128 stored sounds called presets"1. Presets can be stepped through with the front-panel PRESET control, which "scrolls through and instantly recalls the successive presets"1. Rocktron news from October 1996 listed Tim Mahoney of 311 as having "chosen the Replifex... for use in the band's fx arsenal"2.
Power and connections
The Replifex accepts power from the 9VAC/1.5A adaptor supplied with the unit, through a 2.5mm pin jack1. Rocktron states that the 9 volt RMS AC voltage is "internally processed by a voltage doubler which generates a bi-polar +/-15 volts to maintain the headroom and sound quality of professional, studio quality equipment"1.
The Replifex runs on 9 volts AC, not the 9V DC center-negative power most pedals use. It needs the supplied 9VAC/1.5A adaptor and its own 2.5mm pin jack1.
Inputs, outputs and stereo operation
The unit has left and right INPUT jacks and left and right OUTPUT jacks, all 1/4 inch mono jacks1. When using only one input, Rocktron's manual says the right (R) jack should be used1. A Global OUTPUT parameter determines whether the output is a stereo (left and right) signal or two mono signals, and running a single mono output sums the left and right effected signals at that output1.
The Replifex provides two main effect configurations, the Classic configuration and the Rotary configuration, each offering a different selection of available effects1.
Control and MIDI
Front-panel control includes a PRESET control that "scrolls through and instantly recalls the successive presets," and a 16-character display, each character made of 14 segments1.
| Connection | What it does |
|---|---|
| MIDI IN/REMOTE (7-pin DIN) | Receives MIDI from a transmitting device; also accepts a Rocktron All Access MIDI footswitch as a dedicated remote footswitch1 |
| Tap Delay/Rate footswitch jack (1/4 inch mono) | For a momentary footswitch controlling the Tap Delay feature1 |
| Left and right inputs (1/4 inch mono) | Stereo inputs; use the right jack for mono1 |
| Left and right outputs (1/4 inch mono) | Stereo or two mono signals, set by the Global OUTPUT parameter1 |
The Replifex name remains a trademark of Rocktron Corporation3.

Questions
What power supply does the Rocktron Replifex use?
The Replifex runs from a 9VAC/1.5A adaptor, which Rocktron supplies with the unit. Power enters through a 2.5mm pin jack. Because the input is AC rather than the 9V DC used by most pedals, a standard pedalboard supply will not run it. Inside, the 9 volt RMS AC voltage is processed by a voltage doubler that generates a bi-polar plus and minus 15 volts, which Rocktron says maintains the headroom of professional, studio quality equipment.
How long is the Replifex delay time?
The maximum delay time the Replifex provides is 1000ms, or one second, according to Rocktron's manual. Delay time can be set with the Tap Delay feature, which is controlled from a momentary footswitch plugged into the unit's dedicated Tap Delay/Rate footswitch jack.
Is the Replifex stereo?
Yes. The Replifex has left and right 1/4 inch input jacks and left and right 1/4 inch output jacks. A Global OUTPUT parameter determines whether the outputs carry a stereo left and right signal or two mono signals. If you run mono, use only the right input jack, and a single mono output sums the left and right effected signals.
Can the Replifex be controlled over MIDI?
Yes. The Replifex has a MIDI IN/REMOTE jack on a 7-pin DIN connector, which must be connected to the MIDI OUT jack of the transmitting MIDI device via a standard MIDI cable. It also accepts a Rocktron All Access MIDI footswitch configured as a dedicated remote footswitch.
Does the Replifex have tap tempo?
Yes. A Tap Delay/Rate footswitch jack, a 1/4 inch mono jack, is provided for connecting a momentary footswitch to control the Tap Delay feature of the Replifex.
