Standard, Precision and Strobe modes

The VersaTune offers three ways to read a note. Standard Tuning Mode is the default when you power the unit on: a green center LED marked with a zero above it indicates the note is in tune, and red LEDs show flat or sharp in steps of 10 cents1. Precision Tuning Mode increases the sensitivity of the tuner for ultra fine tuning; in this mode the in-tune LED is red and the flat and sharp LEDs are green, reading in steps of 1 cent1. Strobe Tuning Mode works the way a strobe tuner always has: if your note is flat, the red LEDs appear to move from right to left, and if it is sharp they move left to right, with the note in tune when the LEDs stop moving1.

For visibility on a dark stage, the VersaTune has a large "NOTE" display, and Rocktron says bright LEDs "provide the perfect amount of light for on-stage tuning"2.

Tunings and calibration

Beyond standard tuning, the Tunings List holds 126 tuning variations2. The Tunings Window shows over a hundred different tunings and how to tune to them from standard A440 guitar tuning, and the Tuning Window Up and Tuning Window Down buttons on the front panel scroll through them12. A Note Selector switch chooses the note being tuned1.

Calibration runs from 436 Hz to 445 Hz1, which covers reference pitches on either side of A440. The front panel tuning range is plus or minus 50 cents12, and the tuning LEDs themselves span plus or minus 60 cents1.

Controls, inputs and specifications

The front panel switches, as listed by Rocktron, are the Input Selector, Precision Mode, Note Selector, and the Tuning Window Up and Down buttons1. The Input Selector switches between instruments, which matters because the unit carries four inputs: two on the front panel and two on the back2. Two outputs sit on the back panel2.

The VersaTune is a rack unit, not a pedal: at 5 lbs it will not fit on a pedalboard. If you want a Rocktron tuner for a board, the Rocktron Unity Tuner is the pedal-format option.
