The Aclam Guitars Go Rocky Go is a distortion and preamp pedal that recreates the preamp of the Vox Conqueror amplifier, specifically its Brilliant channel. The Conqueror was a transistor-driven amp made from 1967 to 1969 whose preamp included built-in distortion and M.R.B. (Mid Range Boost) effects, and Aclam's pedal faithfully reproduces both circuits while adding some modern refinements12. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the result as delivering vintage-era tones reminiscent of those heard on albums like The Beatles (The White Album) or Magical Mystery Tour1.
The enclosure carries artwork inspired by the "Rocky" Stratocaster, the hand-painted guitar associated with that late-60s era1. The pedal sits in Aclam's roster of Beatles gear-inspired effects, which also includes the Dr. Robert, a replica of the Vox UL730 amp2.
A Vox Conqueror preamp in a stompbox
The Go Rocky Go traces its circuit to a specific vintage amp. Aclam acquired a Vox Conqueror (serial number 2004) in 2017 while searching for a UL730 during the R&D process for its Dr. Robert overdrive. The company restored the amp, measured every component, and traced the circuit boards, then used it as the reference for the pedal34. As the manual puts it, the goal was "to distill the amp's tone and capture it in a stompbox"3.
Guitar Player's reviewer Dave Hunter set the historical context: the Conqueror was "the transistor-driven Vox Conqueror amplifier of 1967 '69, which was used widely on" recordings of that era2. MusicRadar's Jonathan Horsley framed the pedal's purpose similarly, calling it a tool for recreating late-60s Beatles tones from the Magical Mystery Tour and White Album periods4.
Modes and footswitches
The pedal has two footswitches that control four functions: bypass, distortion, M.R.B. and Crunch Mode, using what Aclam calls intelligent switch detection13.
| Function | How it works |
|---|---|
| Bypass (clean) | Bypass footswitch engages the effect; in Normal Mode the Bypass LED is white3 |
| Distortion | Distortion footswitch engages the distortion circuit, based on the original amp's circuit; when on, the Dist. Vol potentiometer lights up orange34 |
| M.R.B. | Tap both footswitches simultaneously to boost the mids; an LED illuminates to show the boost is active34 |
| Crunch Mode | Hold the Bypass footswitch for one and a half seconds to toggle from Normal to Crunch; the Bypass LED turns blue34 |
The two clean preamp modes are distinct. Normal Mode reproduces the clean channel of the original Vox Conqueror preamp, while Crunch Mode has an increased gain structure with a slight overdrive. Aclam describes Crunch Mode as "activating a fuller, dynamic edge-of-breakup tone," and hotter pickups give it more gain35. MusicRadar noted there is an internal trimmer to fine-tune the Crunch mode drive and dial it back if it is a little too much4.
Aclam also made the bass pot more linear and precise than the amp's, a change Premier Guitar's reviewer highlighted6. For the M.R.B., the company went further than off-the-shelf parts: Aclam says it tested numerous inductors for the M.R.B. until it finally ordered custom ones to match the original amp's tone5.
Power: 9 to 18V, 25mA
The Go Rocky Go must be powered with a 9VDC to 18VDC negative tip power supply using the standard Boss type 2.1mm connector3. RockBoard's PedalPedia says the wide voltage range allows greater headroom, more output, and more sustain when powered at higher voltage1. Current draw is approximately 25mA, and the manual recommends a supply providing a minimum of 100mA to leave a safety margin for the DC adapter31.
The pedal must not be powered with any voltage above 18VDC. Aclam warns that any higher voltage will damage its circuit and immediately void the warranty3.
Guitar Player's review confirmed the power arrangement: a standard center-negative supply (not included) delivering anything from nine to 18 volts2.
Circuit and editions
The standard Go Rocky Go is an analog, solid-state design12. Beyond the standard version, Aclam has issued a White Album Edition, a limited run of 68 individually numbered pieces themed on the 1968 White Album era7. It shares exactly the same circuit as the original Go Rocky Go; only the finish is exclusive7. Aclam notes that future production, if any, will not be individually numbered7.
The White Album Edition is listed as sold out on Aclam's product page, as of 25 October 20268. A B-stock "Scratch & Dent" listing for the Go Rocky Go is also sold out9.
The manual itself is at version 2.0, reflecting the pedal traced from the Conqueror Aclam acquired in 20173. MusicRadar reported in March 2025 that the Go Rocky Go was available to order4.
What reviewers said
Premier Guitar's reviewer found the pedal's character depended heavily on the guitar and amp pairing. In the reviewer's words, "its basic voice is a natural fit for humbuckers and an EL84 amp," while "the single-coil/Rocky tones with both Fender and EL84 amps are fascinating, generating sounds that would positively pop in mixes"6.

Questions
Is the Aclam Go Rocky Go analog?
Yes. Aclam lists the circuit type as analog, and Guitar Player's reviewer Dave Hunter describes it as a solid-state analog design. It is a faithful replica of the transistor-driven Vox Conqueror's Brilliant channel preamp, with the amp's original distortion and M.R.B. circuits reproduced rather than modeled digitally.
What is the M.R.B. mode on the Go Rocky Go?
M.R.B. stands for Mid Range Boost, a circuit built into the original Vox Conqueror preamp. On the Go Rocky Go you activate it by tapping the Distortion and Bypass footswitches simultaneously, and an LED lights to show the mids are being boosted. Aclam ordered custom inductors for the M.R.B. to match the original amp's tone.
Is the Go Rocky Go White Album Edition still available?
No. The White Album Edition, a run of 68 individually numbered pieces themed on the 1968 White Album era, is listed as sold out on Aclam's product page. It shares exactly the same circuit as the original Go Rocky Go, with only the finish being exclusive. Aclam says any future production will not be individually numbered.
Does the Go Rocky Go click or pop when switching?
Aclam says the switching is designed to be ultra-silent, with no clicks or pops, for clean pedalboard operation. The two footswitches use intelligent switch detection to control four functions: bypass, distortion, M.R.B. and Crunch Mode. Holding the Bypass footswitch for one and a half seconds toggles between Normal and Crunch modes.
Where can I find the Go Rocky Go manual?
Aclam publishes the Go Rocky Go instructions as a PDF on its website, linked from the product's pedalPedia page, and the current version is 2.0. For questions, Aclam's support contact is support@aclam.cat. The manual covers the controls, the four switching functions, power requirements, and the internal Crunch mode trimmer.
