The Alexander Pedals Fever Pitch Stereophonic Orchestrator is a stereo pitch shifting pedal with built-in effects and LFOs, released by Alexander Pedals in 20221. At its core are four stereo pitch shifters, which route to reverb and delay, stereo tremolo and pan, and a stereo chorus and vibrato section2. The range of sounds runs from ethereal soundscapes that sweep in pitch to single notes transformed into entire chords1.
It is a digital, DSP-based pedal built on Alexander's FXCore DSP2, and it was one of the first digital/DSP-based pedal releases of 20222. When it was announced in March 2022 it was available for pre-order at $299 through dealers1.
Four pitch shifters and follow-on effects
The heart of the pedal is a set of four stereo pitch shifters, each of which may be tuned to intervals between plus and minus one octave, with additional plus and minus two octave settings available4. Each shifter then routes into the pedal's effects chain: reverb and delay, stereo tremolo and pan, and a stereo chorus and vibrato2. Four assignable controls across the top row let you tweak parameters for each of the four pitch shift routes5.
There are also different trigger modes for the effect, including toggle and momentary1. For players coming from Alexander's earlier pitch work, the Fever Pitch is a bigger, stereo take on the territory the Marshmallow dual modulated pitch shifter covered in 2019.
The controls and the OLED screen
Navigation of the pedal's options is made easier with a central OLED screen5. The graphical display shows your current preset, knob values, pitch tuning, and more4. A knob on the lower left section of the pedal scrolls through pages of the user interface, with each page hosting a group of parameters for the various effects15. The pedal's other five knobs adjust the parameters on the current page, and the knob on the right dials in the chosen parameter's setting45.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Left-side knob | Scrolls through pages of the user interface5 |
| Right-side knob | Dials in the chosen parameter's setting5 |
| Five other knobs | Adjust the parameters on the current page4 |
| Top row controls | Four assignable controls for the four pitch shift routes5 |
| OLED screen | Shows current preset, knob values, pitch tuning, and more4 |
The two footswitches
Two footswitches handle the pedal's core duties. The right switch accesses the presets and bypasses the effect, while the left switch taps or ramps the effect5. In full, the footswitches cover on/off duties, tap tempo, preset navigation across the 32 stored presets, and the ramp momentary effect2.
Presets, stereo modes and connections
The Fever Pitch stores 32 built-in presets, accessible on-device or with a MIDI controller4. You can choose from five different stereo modes, selectable in the global configuration menu, to suit your rig4. For connections, you plug your instrument into the pedal's INPUT jack and run a cable from the LEFT / TRS jack to your amplifier2. Input is mono or stereo on a TRS jack, and output is mono or stereo using either a TRS jack or dual TS jacks4.
Expression and MIDI control
Parameters can be controlled with an expression pedal or by MIDI1. The pedal is fully compatible with MIDI and expression pedals, with expression allowing morphing between different knob settings, and a ramp function that moves between expression positions automatically2. Every knob and setting on the pedal is controllable using MIDI4. Like every Venture Series pedal, it also features a USB port for MIDI control and firmware updates4.
What reviewers said
Delicious Audio described the Fever Pitch as a creative pedal rather than a straightforward pitch shifter, and summed up its scope2:
"it's a device bound to keep players busy as if they bought half a dozen new pedals2."
