The AMT Brick Series P Lead 5150 Style Preamp Pedal is a preamp pedal from AMT Electronics, a maker whose Brick series gathers several amp-style preamps in one format. As the name says, the P Lead is built on a 5150 style circuit, the high gain American lead voicing that players associate with hard rock and metal rhythm and lead tones1.
What it does
The P Lead is more than a single gain stage. AMT's listing for the pedal gives it this feature set1:
- Analog preamp with Clean, Low gain and High gain modes, so one pedal covers clean rhythm parts through full high gain lead sounds
- Compressor built in
- Noise Gate as a global setting, useful for taming a high gain 5150 style circuit
- Power Amp block with 9 types, shaping how the preamp responds into the output stage
- IR cabsim, with 1 IR for both L/R channels per preset, so the pedal can feed a PA, an audio interface or a full range rig without a separate speaker simulator
Because the cab sim and power amp blocks are on board, the P Lead can work as a compact amp head substitute: guitar in, direct out to the desk or into a power amp and cabinet. Players who want the same idea in other amp voicings can look at the rest of the Brick family, such as the AMT Bricks R/S-lead, AMT Bricks M-Lead or AMT Bricks F-Clean1.
