AMT Bricks F-Clean

The AMT Bricks F-Clean is a tube preamp pedal from AMT Electronics that is based on the circuit of the clean channel of Fender Twin amplifiers. It is part of AMT's Bricks line of compact tube preamps, and it is available now¹. Like the other Bricks preamps, it can serve two roles on a board: as a preamp plugged into an amp's effects loop Return, or as a drive pedal plugged into the amp's Input¹. What it does and how it is used

AMT describes the F-Clean as emulating the tube preamp of a Fender Twin, built on the scheme of that amp's clean channel²¹. The two operating modes cover the common ways a player would want to use it:

• Preamp mode: connected to the Amp's Return, replacing or feeding the amp's own preamp section¹
• Drive pedal mode: connected to the amp's Input, pushing the front end of the amp like an overdrive¹

The pedal carries the full set of regulation knobs despite its compact design: Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass and Volume¹.

Tube and circuit design

The F-Clean uses a real tube, and AMT says the preamplifier can be equipped with a tube of one of the following types: AMT-12AX7WS, 12AX7, ECC83, or another 12AX7-compatible type¹. That matters for players who like to swap tubes for tone. AMT also highlights the really high anode voltage of +250 to 300V, and a circuit implementation that can be either full tube or hybrid, tube plus semiconductors, with efficient emulation of vacuum triode cascades by semiconductor components¹.

Size and bypass

AMT markets the Bricks line on small dimensions, describing it as Snickers size¹, so the pedal is built to fit a crowded board. For switching, AMT states that when other preamps in a chain are switched on, the units switch to true bypass mode¹.
