The AMT Electronics S1 is an analog preamp pedal: the preamp stage of a guitar amp in a pedal, designed to feed a power amp and speaker instead of a full head. AMT's own demo material shows it doing exactly that, with the S1 preamp driving a Laney L5T-112 power amp1. The maker lists it as available now2.
What it does
The S1 is built around a JFET circuit design. AMT's product material describes it as "producing crazy tight and responsive distortion"3, which is the maker's own characterization of how the gain stage behaves.
On top of the preamp stage, the pedal carries a set of tone-shaping and utility features:
- A compressor4
- A noise gate, set globally rather than per preset1
- Hi and low pass filters plus a presence control5
- Stereo left and right channels, each able to load an IR (impulse response) for cabinet simulation, with one IR shared across both channels per preset1
The stereo IR cabinet simulation means the S1 can voice its output for a speaker cabinet in stereo, which matters most when the pedal is feeding a power amp, a full-range rig, or a recording chain rather than a single guitar cabinet1.
Where it sits in AMT's range
The S1 is part of AMT Electronics' line of preamp pedals, alongside units such as the AMT Electronics S2, the AMT Electronics P1 and the AMT Electronics F1 preamp. If you are comparing preamp pedals as a category, the Preamp Pedals page covers the wider field1.
