The AMT P1 is an analog preamp pedal from AMT Electronics' Legend Amps series, designed to be similar in tone to the 5150 amplifier, which AMT calls one of the most esteemed amplifiers1. It is a preamp with effects rather than a plain drive box: AMT lists an analog preamp section with clean, low gain and high gain modes, a compressor, a power amp section with 9 types, IR cab simulation, and a global noise gate23. As of 26 October 2026 the pedal is listed as soon available, so it has not shipped yet2.

AMT describes the P1's sound as rich and full in tone, providing tube-like rock distortion, well defined, clean, clear, cutting and crunchy1.

Controls and outputs

The P1 carries five knobs: LEVEL, GAIN, LOW, MID and HIGH1. AMT notes a high level of output signal, up to +10dB in the extreme position of the Level knob1.

ControlWhat it does
LEVELSets the output signal level, up to +10dB in its extreme position1
GAINSets the amount of preamp gain1
LOWLow EQ1
MIDMid EQ1
HIGHHigh EQ1

The pedal has two signal outputs: a DIRECT AMPLIFIER OUT for use with a guitar amplifier, and a CAB SIMULATION OUT for a mixer or studio use1. The cab simulation runs one IR for both L/R channels per preset4. AMT's media center also posted a metal test video for the P-142 and a video titled "AMT Electronics: P1 - to amp" showing the pedal running into an amplifier42.

When the speaker simulation output jack is not in use, the pedal automatically switches to power saving mode, in which current draw drops from less than 6mA to 4mA1.

Power

AMT strongly recommends powering the Legend Amp Series devices with either a 9V battery or an adapter1. The pedal draws less than 6mA from a 9V power unit1, a light enough load that a battery is a practical option.

Where it sits in the Legend Amps series

The P1 carries the Legend Amps series approach of putting a single amp-style distortion in one pedal. AMT describes its sound as "rich and full in tone, providing tube-like rock distortion," and "well defined, clean, clear, cutting, crunchy"1. The pedal also includes a Noise Gate as a global setting, and it switches into a power saving mode automatically when the speaker simulation output jack is not in use1.

Questions

Is the AMT P1 available yet?

Not yet. As of 26 October 2026, AMT Electronics' media center lists the P1 preamp as soon available, alongside its feature set. Players interested in the pedal will need to wait for AMT to announce its release.

Is the AMT P1 true bypass?

Yes. AMT says the preamps of the Legend Amp Series pedals use passive true bypass circuitry, so there is no loss of guitar signal when the pedal is switched off.

What amp is the AMT P1 modeled on?

AMT designed the P1 Legend Amp Series pedal to be similar in tone to one of the most esteemed amplifiers, the 5150. It is an analog preamp with clean, low gain and high gain modes.

Does the AMT P1 have a cab simulation output?

Yes. The P1 has two signal outputs: a DIRECT AMPLIFIER OUT for use with a guitar amplifier and a CAB SIMULATION OUT for a mixer or studio use. The cab simulation uses one IR for both L/R channels per preset.

Can the AMT P1 run on a 9V battery?

Yes. AMT strongly recommends powering the Legend Amp Series devices with either a 9V battery or an adapter. The pedal draws less than 6mA from a 9V power unit, dropping to 4mA in power saving mode.

Which other pedals are in the AMT Legend Amps series?

The Legend Amps series includes the P1 alongside the M1, E1, S1, B1 and R1, as shown in AMT's own comparison test of the series.
