The Analog Man Dark Peppermint Fuzz is a variant of the Peppermint Fuzz, a fuzz pedal from Analog Man. It uses the same transistor model as the standard Peppermint but from a different brand, chosen for a darker sound, so the basic tone is similar but not quite as bright. Pricing and options were the same as the Peppermint Fuzz.1
The Dark Peppermint Fuzz is discontinued. Analog Man says it ran out of the Dark Peppermint transistors in late January 2013 and no more could be found.1
What it does
The Dark Peppermint sits alongside the standard Peppermint Fuzz in Analog Man's fuzz range, which also includes the Sun Face and Silicon Sun Face. Where the standard Peppermint leans bright, the Dark version trades some of that brightness for a fatter response. Analog Man describes the difference this way1:
"the DARK version is not as sitar like, it is fatter and can get a sort of trumpet sound when backing off the volume control"1
Analog Man product page1
That volume-control response matters for players: like many fuzzes, cleaning up with the guitar's volume knob is part of the design, and here Analog Man says it produces a trumpet-like sound rather than the sitar-like character of the brighter version.1
Appearance
The pedal is easy to spot on a board. Analog Man gave it a light fluorescent blue coating over the enclosure that glows slightly under fluorescent lights.1

Questions
Is the Analog Man Dark Peppermint Fuzz still made?
No. Analog Man says the pedal was discontinued because the company ran out of the darker sounding transistors it used in late January 2013 and no more could be found. The standard Peppermint Fuzz remained in the lineup, and the Dark version's pricing and options were the same as the standard version's while it was available.
How is the Dark Peppermint Fuzz different from the Peppermint Fuzz?
Analog Man describes the Dark Peppermint as similar to the Peppermint Fuzz but built with some darker sounding transistors. They are the same transistor model but a different brand, so the basic sound is similar but not quite as bright. The maker says the Dark version is not as sitar like, is fatter, and can get a sort of trumpet sound when backing off the guitar's volume control.
