The Warmer Drive is an overdrive pedal from Andy Green Pedals that sits on the border between overdrive and distortion. Running on 18V rather than the usual 9V, it offers a large onboard EQ and enough boost and volume to push an amp hard, and it was reviewed by Pedal of the Day in November 2014.1

What it does

Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Mike B, found the pedal blurred the line between overdrive and distortion: "To classify this pedal as an overdrive is just on the border of being a lie, as it gets right up into Distortion territo[ry]." At lower gain settings it works as a boost, and with the Gain control cranked he described the sound as like "2 walls of amps stacked."1

Because it runs on 18V instead of the usual 9V, the reviewer found it has "huge headroom and tons of volume to really push your sound to the edge," and noted it keeps a crisp edge even with the Treble rolled back.1

The Warmer Drive requires an 18V power supply, not the 9V supply most pedalboards use. It will not run from a standard 9V daisy chain or battery setup.1

Controls

ControlWhat it does
GainActs as a boost between 9:00 and Noon, flowing toward distortion after 12:00; up to 18dB of boost1
TreblePart of the onboard EQ, with a huge range for shaping tone1
MidsPart of the onboard EQ, with a huge range for shaping tone1
BassPart of the onboard EQ, with a huge range for shaping tone1

The reviewer summed up the EQ this way: "the Treble, Mids and Bass controls have a HUGE range, and allow you to really manipulate the tone."1

Reception

Mike B's verdict on Pedal of the Day was strongly positive: "The Warmer Drive from Andy Green Pedals did exactly that as soon as I plugged it in, and after about 15 minutes of jammi[ng]" he was hooked, saying it rocked his world right from the get-go. He also noted the pedal's "big orange" enclosure.1

A July 2015 Pedal of the Day review covers a Warmer Drive built by Kartakou Amplification, a maker the same reviewer describes as "building overdrive pedals," indicating the circuit carried on under that name.2
