The Animal Factory Amplification Godeater+ Dynamic Bass Distortion is a bass distortion pedal described by Pedal of the Day as "an effects unit full of tonal and routing options." It is the newest version of the Godeater, incorporating "years of careful tweaking, user feedback and playing with features" by the maker, and it builds on the sound of its predecessors while improving on the massive saturation of the original pedal.1

Filter-keyed sidechain and MIDI

Where the original Godeater was a straight saturation pedal, the Godeater+ adds a filter-keyed sidechain, advanced routing possibilities and MIDI integration.1 The sidechain gives the distortion a second way of listening to the signal, and the MIDI integration lets the pedal sit in a larger, controlled rig. Together with the routing options, that makes it a distortion with more than the usual set of one-knob choices.

The reviewer's verdict was positive on both halves of the design:

"I love the distortion here, and the Sidechain Mode add an entirely new element to the sound"
Bert Handy, Pedal of the Day1

Beyond bass

Although it is voiced for bass, the review found the pedal travels well: "the Godeater+ adds weight to just about anything you can throw at it, bass, guitar, synths, drum machines, and even mix."1 Players with guitar, synth or drum machine sources looking for a heavier low end may find it useful in the same way bass players do. For other saturation options across instruments, see Distortion Pedals, Overdrive Pedals and Fuzz Pedals.

Build and power

The pedal is housed in a custom die-cast aluminum enclosure with solid knurled aluminum knobs, which the review quotes the maker describing as built "like a tank."1 It runs on a 24V power supply.1

The Godeater+ runs on a 24V power supply, so plan a dedicated supply output for it on your pedalboard.1
