The Behringer TO100 Tube Overdrive is a stompbox overdrive pedal, part of Behringer's budget pedal range. MusicRadar's reviewer Chris Vinnicombe described it as having "an appealing raunch and warmth that's perfectly voiced for classic rock riffing and emotive soloing"1. With a voicing close to a Tube Screamer-type level of drive, it sits in the same family of mid-forward overdrives as the pedals compared in Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, and alongside other Behringer drives such as the TO800 Vintage Tube Overdrive, BO100 Blues Overdrive and Vintage Tube Overdrive1.
Build and power
The electronics are housed in plastic approximately 2.5mm thick, which places the TO100 well below the steel construction of a typical BOSS pedal. Battery access is achieved by depressing the black plastic hinges with a ballpoint pen or similar pointy tool1.
The plastic enclosure and footswitch are worth bearing in mind if the pedal will live on a heavily used pedalboard.
Footswitch and feel
Vinnicombe found the switching system "doesn't feel quite as solid underfoot as a BOSS unit", but noted that it is "much more confidence-inspiring than plastic switches"1. In other words, the footswitch falls between a metal BOSS-style switch and the flimsiest plastic buttons.
What reviewers said
MusicRadar's verdict was positive for the price. The reviewer summed it up:
"A classy bluesy lead tone for £15? Yes please!"
For players wanting more from the same maker, Behringer's overdrive line also includes the Vintage Tube Monster, the VT911 Vintage Tube Overdrive and, more recently, the Zentara and Zentara Mini. See the full range on the Overdrive Pedals page.
