The Black Cat Custom Professional MKII is a fuzz pedal from Black Cat, one of the company's three latest fuzz pedals alongside the Custom MKI Americano and the Bass Octave Fuzz1. Its design brief is specific: Premier Guitar's Shawn Hammond described it as Black Cat's take on the iconic 1960s Sola Sound Tone Bender Professional MKII1.

Circuit and construction

The pedal follows the Tone Bender Professional MKII topology with period-style parts. Hammond reported that it uses a Newmarket NKT274 and two Philips OC75 transistors, together with Mullard tropical fish capacitors1. The build is wired point-to-point on double turrets, the same construction Black Cat used for the MKI Americano1.

Point-to-point wiring on turret boards means the components are hand-soldered to connection lugs rather than mounted on a printed circuit board, a construction method associated with the original 1960s pedals the design references1.
