The CKK Electronic Scream Honey SH-1N is an analog overdrive pedal built around one idea: leave the amplifier's own voice alone. CKK's product page states that the "SH-1N must not attenuate any useful frequency of amp tone", and that it is designed to avoid reducing low frequency at high volume. The maker positions it especially at "the Marshall enthusiasts who have never found a satisfied overdrive", players who want a push rather than a reshaping of their amp's sound1. In the wider field of overdrive pedals, it sits with the transparent, minimally coloring designs rather than the mid-humped style of a Tube Screamer.
What it does to your sound
CKK describes the SH-1N as an overdrive that retains the amp's original frequencies instead of cutting into them, so the amp's low end holds up even at high volume1. The pedal carries two toggle switches that change its character:
- BOLD switch (up position): boosts low frequency and high frequency, and raises gain as well1
- Both switches down (off): what CKK calls "a traditional and classic overdrive tone"1
- HOLLOW switch: an upper mids cut, as Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described it on the Gold Edition2
The BOLD setting is the brighter, fuller voice of the pedal; with the switches off it behaves as a more conventional overdrive. Players who want even less color from a pedal in front of a clean amp might also look at a dedicated boost pedal or a preamp pedal, though the Scream Honey's switches give it more shaping than either1.
Design and construction
CKK says the SH-1N is completely hand soldered, and that it uses hand tested and selected vintage components which the maker collected over many years, all of them discontinued for several decades1. The design itself is credited to Sinvertek, which CKK says was "Based on ten years of research, we proudly announced that our first high-end overdrive pedal was born."1
The Gold Edition
In March 2022 a limited Gold Edition of the Scream Honey appeared, and Stefan Karlsson reviewed it for Guitar Pedal X after it had sold out. His unit was #39 of 592. He characterized it as "a pristine, high-headroom, low-gain, transparent overdrive", and wrote that "What the Scream Honey does really well is those gorgeous uncoloured amp-like high headroom tones."2
His verdict was measured rather than glowing. He found it reasonable value even at its higher price, but wrote that "it's never really going to challenge my overall favourite overdrives", since he values range and versatility in an overdrive2. In a later Guitar Pedal X piece from August 2026 he was blunter about its gain range, calling the SH-1N Scream Honey Gold Edition "a little too anaemic (low gain) for me"3. Players comparing it should read it as a low-gain, amp-like drive, not a high-gain pedal; for heavier sounds the distortion pedals category is the neighboring territory.
The Gold Edition was limited to 59 units and had sold out by the time it was reviewed in March 20222.
Power and practical details
The SH-1N runs on 9V DC center negative and draws 10mA, so it works with any standard pedalboard supply1. CKK publishes an English manual for the pedal as a PDF on its own site1.

Questions
What power does the CKK Scream Honey SH-1N need?
The Scream Honey SH-1N runs on 9V DC with a center-negative plug, the standard pedal supply, and draws 10mA of current. That low draw means it sits comfortably on a pedalboard powered by a shared supply or daisy chain alongside other typical pedals.
Is the Scream Honey SH-1N analog?
Yes. CKK lists the SH-1N's circuit type as analog on its product page. It is a hand-soldered analog overdrive built around hand-tested and selected vintage components that the maker says have been discontinued for several decades.
What does the tone switch do on the Scream Honey?
The SH-1N has a two-position tone switch. In the up position, labeled BOLD, it boosts the low frequency and the high frequency and raises gain as well. With both switches down, turned off, the pedal produces what CKK calls a traditional and classic overdrive tone.
Who designed the CKK Scream Honey?
The Scream Honey was designed by Sinvertek, which CKK says drew on ten years of research into overdrive and amp tone combinations before announcing its first high-end overdrive pedal.
Is there a manual for the Scream Honey SH-1N?
Yes. An English manual is available as a PDF from CKK's own site, linked from the pedal's product page: https://www.ckkelectronic.com/um/CKK-PC-SH.pdf.
