The London Fog is a compact stereo tape-style delay from Coffee Shop Pedals, designed by Benno, who Guitar Pedal X credits with having "conjured up a quite superb Tape Style Delay"1. It models the way an old tape machine behaves: as RockBoard's PedalPedia puts it, "The London Fog delays, degrades, ages, and modulates audio in the same way an old tape machine does - but with a twist"2.

Four tape modes

The pedal offers four program modes: New Tape, Old Tape, Vintage Tape and Dual Tape1. The Control knob does a different job in each. New Tape and Vintage Tape share the same Wow Modulation, while Old Tape combines both Wow & Flutter and Saturation1. Dual Tape adds tap/division options, with Quarters becoming Ping Pong in stereo1.

Playback direction is a separate control with three settings: Reverse, Both (Parallel) and Forward3. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it plainly: "You can play your delay in forward, reverse, or both at the same time in parallel"2. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson noted this playback direction is "a little reminiscent of the Chase Bliss Reverse Mode C"1.

The two footswitches divide the work: one is Tap-Tempo, held for Bend Time, and the other is Bypass / Div. Pressing both together scrolls through the 3 onboard presets1. Infinite Repeats are also available1.

Presets and MIDI

There are 3 onboard presets, with 20 available via MIDI1. The MIDI channel is set through the Program knob1. For players running a MIDI switcher on a larger board, that gives room to store and recall far more sounds than the pedal's faceplate alone allows.

Price and availability

Guitar Pedal X reported the London Fog available for order via the Coffee Shop Pedals webstore as of March 20241, listing it at $309 CAD / $228 USD in its December 2024 roundup, with an earlier figure of around £180 GBP13. It followed the same maker's Cortado Reverb, a stereo reverb1.

Summing the pedal up in his year-end coverage, Karlsson called it a "Really smart stereo multi-directional Tape style delay with lots of clever extras"3.

Guitar Pedal X listed the London Fog at $309 CAD, which equates to around $228 USD and £180 GBP. The $228 USD figure was given as of December 2024, so the current price may have changed since then.

Is the London Fog a stereo pedal?

Yes. Guitar Pedal X describes it as a compact stereo tape-style delay. In Dual Tape mode the Quarters division becomes Ping Pong in stereo, spreading repeats across the two outputs. The same reviewer called it a really smart stereo multi-directional tape style delay with lots of clever extras.

How long can the delay time go on the London Fog?

Yes. One of the two footswitches is a Tap-Tempo switch, and holding it activates Bend Time, which shifts the delay time while playing. Infinite repeats are also available.

Can you save presets on the London Fog?

Yes. There are 3 onboard presets, and pressing both footswitches together scrolls through them. A further 20 presets are available via MIDI, with the MIDI channel set through the Program knob.

Does the London Fog have reverse delay?

Yes. The Playback Direction control offers Reverse, Both (Parallel) and Forward. Coffee Shop Pedals says you can play your delay in forward, reverse, or both at the same time in parallel. Guitar Pedal X found the playback direction a little reminiscent of the Chase Bliss Reverse Mode C.
