The Colorsound Tonebender Pro Mk II is a classic 1960s fuzz box, a germanium-transistor fuzz pedal from the era when fuzz pedals were first defining what a distorted guitar could sound like. According to the maker's product page, it was used by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Pete Townshend about 19651.
What it does
Like other Tonebender-style fuzzes, the Pro Mk II uses germanium transistors, the component type that gave 1960s fuzz boxes their character before silicon took over. The control layout is minimal: a level knob sets the output volume and an attack knob sets the amount of fuzz. The pedal comes in a heavy sand-cast case finished in hammerite paint1.
Analog Man, the US effects builder, offered a version of it and described it as "An exact reissue unlike the other tonebender on the market"1.
The Colorsound Tonebender Pro Mk II is described by its maker as an exact reissue, unlike the other tonebender on the market, and it uses germanium transistors1.
