Cooper FX Moment Machine

The Cooper FX Moment Machine is a pitch shifter pedal built around two independent polyphonic pitch shifting engines, meaning it can shift your whole signal, chords included, in two separate voices at once. Alongside the engines it carries a sixteen step sequencer and over two hundred user adjustable parameters, which led Delicious Audio to call it "the most tweakable pitch shifter available in hardware form" at its unveiling in January 2018¹.

Controls and operation

With that many parameters, the Moment Machine leans on a menu-driven layout rather than a knob per function. Access to the device's many features is addressed through screen-based navigation controlled via five knobs, while the three footswitches deal with Tap Tempo, Function and On/Off duties¹. For a player, that means deep editing is possible on the pedal itself, but it works more like a small computer than a set-and-forget stompbox: sounds are dialed in through the screen and saved, then recalled with the footswitches.

Where it sits

Pitch shifting is one of those effects that, when used in non-subtle ways, can open up a wide palette of creative possibilities, as Delicious Audio put it in the same report¹. The Moment Machine belongs to the octave and pitch family; for other approaches to the effect, see the Octave & Pitch Pedals page.
