The Danelectro Daddy O DO-1 is an overdrive pedal with individual attenuation of the Bass, Middle and Treble frequencies, giving players control over how the pedal's EQ shapes their drive tone1.
What it does
The Daddy O's controls are simple but broader than many overdrives. You get the standard Volume and O Drive controls, along with individual attenuation of the Bass, Middle and Treble frequencies1. That three-band EQ is what sets it apart from a typical two-knob overdrive: you can shape the low end, the midrange and the top separately rather than working with a single tone control.
Tones it covers
Danelectro's aim with the circuit is classic tube-amp style breakup, and the review found the EQ gives it range. The controls let you conjure up a variety of vintage overdrives, including British Stacks, Texas Blues and even some higher gain tones1. In other words, one pedal covers everything from a cranked British-style stack to a Texas blues drive, with headroom to push into higher gain territory.

How reviewers heard it
Pedal of the Day's review is the main published account of the pedal. Its verdict on the hardware: "the Daddy O Overdrive is big, bold and built like an absolute tank"1. The reviewer placed it in the late-1990s Danelectro lineup with the Cool Cat and Dan-Echo, and credited its controls with covering vintage overdrive styles from British Stacks to Texas Blues and higher gain tones1.
For context within Danelectro's overdrive range, the Daddy O's full EQ also distinguishes it from later, more focused designs like the Billionaire Pride Of Texas or the Breakdown Overdrive. If you are weighing overdrives generally, the Overdrive Pedals page lays out the wider field.
