The Danelectro DC-1 Cool Cat Chorus is a chorus pedal produced in the late 1990s1. Chorus pedals like this one thicken a guitar's sound by layering a detuned copy of the signal over the original; you can read more about the effect type on the Chorus Pedals page. The Cool Cat line sits alongside other Danelectro chorus designs such as the Danelectro D-5 Fab Chorus and the Danelectro Wasabi AC-1.
What it does
The DC-1 keeps things simple: two knobs cover everything the pedal does1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Speed | Sets the rate, or number of sweeps, of the chorus effect1 |
| Chill | Adjusts the depth, or intensity, of the effect as it mixes with the original tone1 |
The feature Pedal of the Day's reviewer singled out is its stereo outputs, which he described as a major feature that sets it apart from other chorus pedals1. A stereo output lets you send the wet and dry parts of the chorus to two amps or two channels, which is where a chorus effect often shows its widest character.
As for the sounds, Pedal of the Day's reviewer was enthusiastic:
"Beaming with intensity, vintage attitude and, honestly, powerful, lush, sweeping chorus tones, the DC-1 is a marvel"
The same review describes the range of chorus characters available from the two controls as "Lush. Rotary. Acoustic. Doubling. Subtle. All available right here, right now. Rich, syrupy and silky smooth"1. In plain terms, the Speed and Chill knobs span everything from a barely-there thickening to a pronounced, swirling modulation, and the reviewer found the tones held up across that range.
