The Dingotone Germanium Hybrid Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from the maker Dingotone. It is built as a hybrid Silicon/Germanium fuzz circuit, meaning it uses both silicon and germanium transistors, the two transistor types at the heart of most classic fuzz designs. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as capturing "the heavy distortion tone of guitar legends from the late sixties through to today, a tone that has been used in countless recordings and on countless stages."1
Circuit and sound
The pedal's defining feature is its hybrid circuit topology. Silicon and germanium transistors behave differently: germanium is associated with the softer, saggier fuzzes of the sixties, while silicon tends toward a harder, more compressed clip. By combining both, the Germanium Hybrid Fuzz sits in the family of fuzz pedals that aim to cover that range in one box. The circuit is analog throughout.1
Dingotone's own description of what the pedal does: "It captures the heavy distortion tone of guitar legends from the late sixties through to today, a tone that has been used in countless recordings and on countless stages."1
Power
The pedal runs on 9V DC with a center negative plug and draws 5mA, a low current draw that any standard pedalboard power supply can handle.1
