The FUZZ WAH EXTRAVAGANZA (LOOSH 1) is a one-off fuzz wah prototype from Dr. No Effects, a builder of fuzz pedals such as the NecroFuzzIcon and the RoadRunner. It combines a fuzz, the clipping stage that gives a pedal its saturated, sustaining character, with a wah, the rocking filter pedal players know from standalone wah boards, in a single enclosure. The maker describes it as a "Fuzz Wah extreme with gritty and smooth Fuzz." It was never put into production: the webshop lists it as not for sale and out of stock, and the maker states plainly that there is literally only one of these.1
A one-off, not a product
Dr. No Effects describes the pedal as "a one-off beast," and the webshop carries the heading "NOT FOR SALE" with a price of 0.00 EUR. The name comes from the project's working title: the maker says the original work name, and how it would have been called if it had come into fruition, is "LOOSH."1
The enclosure is flocked, with lightning wings on the sides, and the pedal ships in the original Dr. No Effects box.1
Both prototypes are one-offs. Neither is available to buy, and no production version of either design has been announced.
What it does
The pedal is a fuzz and a wah in one housing, and the two sections can work apart or together1:
- Wah alone: kill the fuzz and you have a standalone wah, according to the maker.1
- Fuzz on: two voicings, "Gritty" fuzz and "Smooth" fuzz.1
- Wah character: the wah section has a 3-way output cap selector to twist the character even further.1
- Dialing it in: separate volume and fuzz gain pots.1
The voicing switch is the main tonal choice on the fuzz side. Dr. No Effects names the two options Gritty and Smooth, and pairs them with a fuzz gain pot and a volume pot, so the amount of fuzz and the output level are set independently of each other. On the wah side, the 3-way output cap selector changes the wah's character further, on top of the rocking action of the pedal itself.1
Loosh 1 and Loosh 2
Two prototypes were made. The other one, the Swell Fuzz Wah Extravaganza (Loosh 2), is also listed as not for sale. The maker describes the pair as completely different animals.12
| Loosh 1 | Loosh 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Fuzz circuit | Gritty and Smooth voicings | SuperFuzz-derived fuzz circuit, Low and Normal voicings2 |
| Swell function | No | Yes2 |
| Wah | Standalone when fuzz is off, 3-way output cap selector | Standalone when fuzz is off, 3-way output cap selector2 |
| Enclosure | Flocked, lightning wings | Black body, yellow footrocker, yellow lightning bolts1 |
| Status | One-off, not for sale | One-off, not for sale2 |
The shared ground between the two is the layout: a fuzz and a wah in one box, with the wah usable on its own when the fuzz is killed, and the same 3-way output cap selector shaping the wah on each. Where they part ways is the fuzz. Loosh 1 offers the Gritty and Smooth voicings, while Loosh 2 is built around a fuzz circuit derived from the SuperFuzz, with Low and Normal voicings, and adds a swell function Loosh 1 does not have.12
Questions
Can you buy the Dr. No Effects Fuzz Wah Extravaganza?
No. Dr. No Effects lists both prototypes, Loosh 1 and Loosh 2, as not for sale and out of stock on its webshop. Each is a one-off build, so there is no production run to buy from, and the webshop shows a price of 0.00 EUR as a placeholder rather than an offer to sell.
How many Fuzz Wah Extravaganza pedals exist?
Two prototypes were made, according to Dr. No Effects. One is the Loosh 1 covered here, and the other is the Swell Fuzz Wah Extravaganza (Loosh 2), which uses a different fuzz circuit and adds a swell function. The maker says there is literally only one of each.
What is the difference between Loosh 1 and Loosh 2?
Loosh 1 is described as a fuzz wah extreme with Gritty and Smooth fuzz voicings. Loosh 2 uses a SuperFuzz-derived fuzz circuit paired with a wah, has a swell function, and offers Low and Normal fuzz voicings. The maker calls the two completely different animals, and each is a one-off.
Can the wah be used without the fuzz?
Yes. Dr. No Effects says that killing the fuzz leaves a standalone wah on both prototypes. With the fuzz engaged, Loosh 1 gives a choice of Gritty and Smooth voicings, and separate volume and fuzz gain pots let you dial the sound in.
