The Dr No Skull Fuzz Limited Edition is a fuzz pedal from Dr. No, built as a small artist series around the company's Skull Fuzz circuit. Dr. No had asked artists to design cases for the Skull Fuzz, and the winning design came from sculptor Peter van Elderen, who also plays guitar and sings in the band Peter Pan Speedrock. The result was a limited run of 24 Skull Fuzzes in his design1.
The controls
The Limited Edition keeps the Skull Fuzz layout simple: two knobs and a footswitch1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Fuzz | One fuzz knob, setting the amount of fuzz1 |
| Volume | One volume control, setting the pedal's output level1 |
| Footswitch | A true bypass footswitch, taking the circuit out of the signal path when off1 |
Design, colors and enclosure
Each of the 24 pedals comes in one of four colors: Gold, Silver, Copper and Black. The pedals also come in a wooden box designed to complement the look of the pedal inside1.
The enclosure is made of a fiber strengthened material which is designed to be tough and durable1.
With only 24 units made, this is a limited edition rather than a standard catalog pedal. Dr. No's regular SkullFuzz and other SkullFuzz variants, such as the Art SkullFuzz and Flying SkullFuzz, are separate products.
Collectibility and price
When the pedal was announced, the reaction was that "This all makes it a bit of a collectors item really", a view from gearnews.com's news item on the release1. The suggested retail price was still to be confirmed at announcement, though the regular version of the SkullFuzz was listed at USD $2991.
