The Dr. No Effects Mini Turd Fuzz is a compact fuzz pedal: a pedalboard-friendly version of the company's turd-shaped Turd Fuzz. Where the original Turd Fuzz sits in a soft foam enclosure with no external controls, the Mini Turd Fuzz packs the same two-transistor silicon fuzz circuit into a smaller housing and adds an external Fuzz Volume knob12.

Dr. No says the pedal came about because many musicians asked for a "pedalboard friendly unit" after the success of the foam Turd pedals1. When it launched in 2017, MusicRadar reported that just 250 units would be produced2, and the maker's product page now lists a new 2026 series as available1.

What it does: a two-transistor silicon fuzz

The Mini Turd Fuzz is built on the same circuit as the original Turd Fuzz, working with two BC109C silicon transistors4. Press coverage of the original Turd Fuzz described the handmade circuit as containing a pair of NOS transistors that generate a nasty, old-fashioned fuzz tone that works well with both guitar and bass56.

Dr. No describes the fuzz itself as "mean and loud but works perfectly with the added Fuzz Volume to set back gain as well as it works great with dailing back your guitar volume pot. Fuzz in it's purist form"1. On Guitar Pedal X, Stefan Karlsson called it "a really stanky fuzz in the best possible way"7.

The maker says the pedal works with electric guitar and bass3, and the original Turd Fuzz's foam enclosure was described by MusicRadar as turd-shaped and made of soft foam material36.

The controls: Fuzz Volume and your guitar's volume knob

The control scheme is deliberately minimal. The original Turd Fuzz has no volume or other dial knobs at all: its single volume potentiometer is internal, tuned with a tiny flat screwdriver, and set to go36. Gearnews described the original's volume control as internal and "set and forget," with the fuzz controlled from the guitar's volume control8.

The Mini Turd Fuzz changes that in one respect: it adds an external Fuzz Volume knob, in the original Turd shape, as a bonus1. Gearnews reported at launch that "a potentiometer for adjusting the fuzz gain has been added, which should make it even more versatile"4. MusicRadar likewise described the pedal as controlled via a single volume control, with gain adjusted using guitar volume2.

ControlLocationWhat it does
Fuzz VolumeExternal knob, Turd shapedSets the fuzz level and backs off the gain1
GainYour guitar's volume potDials the fuzz back from the guitar12

For a player, that means the fuzz character lives in the circuit and the guitar: roll your guitar's volume down and the fuzz cleans up, roll it up and it gets mean and loud, with the Fuzz Volume knob as the level and gain trim between the two21.

How it differs from the original foam Turd Fuzz

The original Turd Fuzz is made of soft, spongy foam, with a built-in internal footswitch you engage by pressing the turd itself3. Dr. No says the foam is very durable and strong material built to last3. It has no external knobs; everything is set inside3.

The Mini Turd Fuzz keeps the circuit but moves it into a more pedalboard-friendly housing14. Gearnews called it "the pedalboard-friendly version of its successful big brother The Turd"4, and MusicRadar noted it launched to keep up with demand after the company sold out of its original foam-shaped shipment2.

Who makes it, and what comes in the box

The Mini Turd Fuzz is made by Dr. No Effects, handmade with a one year unlimited warranty1. The original Turd Fuzz is described by the maker as a collaboration with artist Peter van Elderen, of Peter Pan Speedrock and Home Steel3. The company says many musicians asked about a "pedalboard friendly unit," which is what the Mini delivers in a 9.36 × 5 × 3 cm enclosure1.

The Mini Turd Fuzz comes in a custom-made cardboard box with a cotton silkscreened bag, including a Dr. No Effects sticker set and a keychain1. Gearnews noted the same bundle at launch: a custom-made, screen-printed box, a cotton bag for the pedal, and free stickers and key rings4.

The maker's page lists the price as €257.00 with free worldwide shipping included, as of July 20261. At launch in 2017, MusicRadar listed it at €1792. The original foam Turd Fuzz was reissued in limited runs, and the company sold out of its original foam-shaped shipment310.

Questions

How is the Mini Turd different from the original foam Turd Fuzz?

The original Turd Fuzz is housed in a soft, spongy foam turd-shaped enclosure with an internal footswitch and no external knobs. The Mini Turd Fuzz keeps the same circuit but moves it into a smaller, pedalboard-friendly housing and adds an external Fuzz Volume knob shaped like the original Turd.

What transistors are in the Dr No Mini Turd Fuzz?

The Mini Turd Fuzz is a two-transistor silicon fuzz built around a pair of BC109C transistors. Dr. No describes it as the same circuit as the original Turd Fuzz, which press coverage also reported as using two NOS transistors.

Does the Mini Turd Fuzz have a gain knob?

It has a single external Fuzz Volume knob, which Dr. No says sets back the gain on a fuzz that is otherwise mean and loud. Beyond that, gain is adjusted using your guitar's volume pot, which the maker says works great for dialing back the fuzz.

How many Mini Turd Fuzz pedals were made?

When the Mini Turd Fuzz launched in 2017, MusicRadar reported that just 250 units would be produced. Dr. No has since made a new 2026 series, which the maker's product page lists as available now.

Who designed the Turd Fuzz?

The Turd Fuzz is made by Dr. No Effects and is described by the maker as a collaboration with artist Peter van Elderen, known from Peter Pan Speedrock and Home Steel. The pedals are fully handmade in Dr. No's lab.
