Dr. No Art SkullFuzz

The Dr. No Art SkullFuzz is a limited edition fuzz pedal from Dr. No Effects, built into a cast, skull-shaped housing instead of a standard stompbox enclosure. Inside the skull is the same fuzz circuit the maker uses in its regular SkullFuzz, so the Art SkullFuzz is best understood as an art-object version of an existing pedal rather than a new circuit¹.

The original Art SkullFuzz appeared in April 2016, when Dr. No Effects showed work at the Fuzzadelic SkullShow expo at the RoadBurn festival in Holland. One standout piece was Peter van Elderen's interpretation, which the maker brought to life in a limited edition run of 25 handcrafted units¹. In June 2025 the maker announced the pedal's return in a new limited run of Silver, Black, Copper and Gold editions, sold through an invitation-only presale¹.

The controls: Volume, Fuzz and the Lowdown toggle

The control set is small and simple. Two chickenhead knobs handle Volume and Fuzz, which Dr. No Effects describes as giving tactile control for dialing in the tone¹⁵⁴. A mini toggle switch, called the Lowdown, selects between regular fuzz and low-end fuzz, giving the pedal two voices: the standard fuzz setting and a bassier one for a heavier low end².

A color pilot light on the pedal illuminates the board when the effect is engaged¹³⁴.

Power and the cast skull housing

The Art SkullFuzz runs on 9V through a 2.1mm input jack¹³⁴. No battery option or current draw figure is given by the maker.

The housing is the real story. Each pedal is built in a fiber-strengthened casting material housing with a real steel outside layer coating, which the maker says gives it a rugged look and durability¹³⁴. Each unit also carries a steel silkscreened backplate that is signed and numbered, marking it as part of the limited edition³. At 24cm x 12cm x 9cm, the pedal is much larger than a typical compact fuzz box, so it is a statement piece as much as an effect¹³⁵.

Editions, numbering and how the presale worked

The 2025 return covered four editions: Silver, Black, Copper and Gold¹. The announcement describes a limited batch of 25 handmade units with 12 made of each color, while the individual product pages number units out of 12 per color, for example "No# 07/12, 2025, Handsigned by Dr. No"¹⁵. The maker's own figures disagree here, so both are given: 25 units in the batch, with each color's units numbered out of 12.

The presale was invitation-only, with access offered through the maker's Instagram and mailing list². Dr. No priced the new editions like the original edition, but only for a limited time and while supplies lasted¹²⁵. Pre-orders shipped on August 31, 2025, with free worldwide shipping included¹. The list price on the product pages is € 475.00³.

One-of-a-kind Art SkullFuzz builds

Beyond the numbered color editions, Dr. No Effects has hand made a series of single Art SkullFuzz units and tiny runs, each a one-off. These include⁶⁷⁸:

• A one-off Art SkullFuzz, hand made by Dr. No Effects in December 2025, only one made, with a flock skull and base⁶
• A custom SkullFuzz built for Jack White, based on his idea and color scheme⁹
• The Art SkullFuzz Flock Edition, a limited edition of a limited edition: only two units crafted, adorned with a red flock finish⁸
• The Siamese Twin SkullFuzz, where Dr. No uses the guitar effect as his canvas¹⁰

These one-offs follow the same pattern as the numbered editions: the maker's own SkullFuzz circuit inside a hand-finished cast skull, with the finish and knobs unique to each build¹²³.
