The Drunk Beaver Irpin is a fuzz with a boost section, built as Drunk Beaver's take on the Roland Bee Baa circuit. Released as a Pedal Drop in October 2025, it splits the fuzz and boost across two footswitches, giving five functions from a compact pedal. It was offered as a limited run of 30 units at $175 each on the Drunk Beaver webstore1.

The original Roland Bee Baa is, as General Guitar Gadgets describes it, "basically a fuzz tone with a booster section," combining a fuzz with a good-sounding clean boost2. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, reviewing the Irpin for his 2025 fuzz roundup, called it "probably the smartest take on the Bee Baa Fuzz to date"3.

Footswitches, LED colors and the five functions

The Irpin's switching is the heart of the design. Vitalii's switching system allows five functions from just two footswitches, with effects switched by signal relays and the EQ handled by electronic switching, all controlled by a microcontroller1.

FootswitchFunctions
LeftFuzz toggle, Flat/Scooped, Mixed EQ
RightBoost, Boost + Fuzz

The right-hand LED shows the effects status at a glance1:

  • Red: Boost on
  • Blue: Fuzz on
  • Purple: Boost + Fuzz on

The fuzz side offers three EQ options through the left footswitch: a flat setting, a scooped setting, and a mixed EQ3.

Transistors and circuit

The Irpin uses new old stock Japanese transistors: a Sanyo 2SD1450 for the boost and two Matsushita (Panasonic) 2SD1330 transistors for the fuzz stages1. Karlsson described the design as "an amazing technological evolution" of the Bee Baa concept, splitting the fuzz and boost onto separate footswitches1.

"Effects are switched by signal relays and the EQ has electronic switching, everything is controlled by a MCU."

Availability

As with other Drunk Beaver Pedal Drops, the Irpin was a rapid prototyping project with no official demo provided at release1. Karlsson expected strong demand: "I feel like this is going to be a very popular release - and you will need lightning reactions - or before you know it"1. With only 30 units at launch, the pedal is no longer a current production model. Questions

What pedal is the Drunk Beaver Irpin based on?

The Irpin is Drunk Beaver's take on the Roland Bee Baa, a fuzz tone with a booster section. Guitar Pedal X called it "probably the smartest take on the Bee Baa Fuzz to date" in its 2025 fuzz roundup. The Irpin splits the fuzz and boost across two footswitches rather than the original's arrangement.

How many Irpin pedals were made?

The Irpin was released as Pedal Drop #33 with just 30 units available on the Drunk Beaver webstore when the release was announced in October 2025. Like other Drunk Beaver Pedal Drops, it was a limited run, and Guitar Pedal X expected it to sell quickly.

What do the red, blue and purple LEDs mean on the Irpin?

The right LED shows the effects status: red means the boost is on, blue means the fuzz is on, and purple means both boost and fuzz are on together. The pedal uses two bicolor indicator LEDs alongside its two footswitches.

How much did the Drunk Beaver Irpin cost?

The Irpin was priced at $175 each when it went on sale in October 2025, with 30 units available on the Drunk Beaver webstore at launch.

Which transistors does the Irpin use?

The Irpin uses a Sanyo 2SD1450 transistor for the boost and two Matsushita (Panasonic) 2SD1330 transistors for the fuzz stages, according to Guitar Pedal X's release coverage.
