The EBS Stanley Clarke signature Wah/Tone Filter is an analog wah pedal from Swedish maker EBS, developed as a signature model with bassist Stanley Clarke. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as much more than a standard wah: it works as a wah, a tone filter, and a volume pedal in one unit1. It belongs to EBS's filter line, alongside pedals like the EBS BassIQ Blue Label, and sits in the broader family of filter pedals.
What it does
The main idea behind the pedal, according to RockBoard's PedalPedia, was to use it as a tone filter to re-create the sound of Stanley Clarke with a standard passive bass1. That makes it aimed at bass players first, though the wah and volume functions work the way a player would expect from any expression-style rocking pedal.
Because it was designed for bass, the frequency range extends lower than a typical guitar wah. No Treble's Evan Kepner noted the pedal's extended frequency range, and wrote that it "has been designed specifically for the bass according to Clarke's musical requirements and personal taste"2.
Controls
Premier Guitar's announcement of the pedal listed two adjustable controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bandwidth | Adjusts the width of the filtered frequency band3 |
| Frequency range | Adjusts where the filter sweeps in the frequency spectrum3 |
Those two controls shape the character of the wah sweep: the frequency range sets where in the spectrum the filter works, which matters on bass, and the bandwidth sets how broad or narrow the swept band is3.
Power and setup
The pedal runs on 9V DC, center negative, and draws 25 mA1. That current draw is modest, but it is above what some low-draw pedals need, so it is worth checking against a daisy-chain supply's spare capacity when adding it to a board.
