The Mountain is a fuzz pedal from Farm Pedals, a builder based in Maine. It runs three harmonically different one-knob fuzz circuits in parallel, all sounding at once. Delicious Audio described it as "a very high gain aggressive pedal" that "moves some air, delivering three harmonically different one knob fuzzes simultaneously without stacking or losing definition"1.
The three voices
Each voice has a single knob that sets its level, and each has a unity point on the dial, the setting where the voice sits at the same volume as your clean signal. The B knob's unity is around 10 o'clock, the S knob's around noon, and the D knob's around 11 o'clock1.
| Knob | Voice | Unity point | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| B | Bright voice of the Farm Evolution Fuzz pedal | Around 10 o'clock | Cutting, cocked wah-like tones |
| S | A modified Sweetleaf Fuzz | Around noon | Woolly, distorted tones |
| D | Dark voice of the Evolution Fuzz pedal | Around 11 o'clock | Heavy, deep tones |
The bright and dark voices are based on the Farm Evolution Fuzz pedal, while the sweet voice is a modified Sweetleaf Fuzz1. Because the three circuits run in parallel rather than in series, they blend rather than stack, which is how the pedal keeps its definition at high gain.
Where it sits in Farm Pedals' range
The Mountain is one of several fuzzes Farm Pedals has released. The maker's Subsoiler Fuzz has appeared alongside it in the maker's range, and the company has also announced The Altar, a hybrid Germanium/Mosfet overdrive/fuzz1.
