The Fenris Super-Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Fjord Fuzz, the Norwegian builder known for a range of fuzz designs. Guitar Pedal X, reviewing it among the year's new fuzz pedals, described it as "an evolution of Daniel's Gjallarhorn Fuzz", referring to the builder's earlier fuzz circuit1. It sits in the octave and super-fuzz territory of the Fuzz Pedals field, with an Octaving control alongside its fuzz gain.
Controls
The Fenris carries six controls on a single footswitch pedal, a different set from the Gjallarhorn it grew out of. Guitar Pedal X noted that "The Fenris flips the script again with a different set of 6 controls and single footswitch"1.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Output level |
| Gain | Fuzz drive |
| Notch Filters (x2) | Two notch filter controls for shaping the fuzz voicing |
| Passive Gate | Noise gate control |
| Octaving | Octave effect blended with the fuzz |
The two Notch Filters are the distinguishing feature here: where most fuzzes offer a single tone or bias control, the Fenris gives two, letting a player scoop specific frequencies out of the fuzz voicing. The Passive Gate runs without power-hungry circuitry of its own, and the Octaving control adds the octave-up character players associate with super-fuzz style designs1.
Price and availability
Guitar Pedal X listed the Fenris Super-Fuzz at $180 when it reviewed the pedal in December 20201.
