Flattley Pedals Flattley Solaris Pro Fuzz

The Flattley Pedals Solaris Pro Fuzz is a fuzz pedal with a boost footswitch, described by RockBoard's PedalPedia as a "FUZZ BOOSTER"¹. It sits in the fuzz family, with a boost function that puts it alongside boost pedals as a second, switchable stage of level.

The idea behind it, in the maker's words, was "to create a simple fuzz box that would do a few tones well, a 'fuzz without fuss'." Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described it as "a rather gorgeous-looking high-end Big Muff-style fuzz with extra boost footswitch"².

What it does

The Solaris Pro shares the controls of its inspiration, the Big Muff, but with a lot more gain added to the Sustain knob. That extra gain means the amount of distortion can be controlled from the guitar's volume knob, and the circuit cleans up well with a low signal at the guitar².

The gain is pre-set to max, and the volume control of the guitar is meant to be used to change the tone². In practice that makes the pedal a fixed-voiced fuzz whose character you ride from the guitar, rather than one you reshape from the pedalboard.

Where the Big Muff layout uses a Norm/Norm+ toggle switch, the Solaris Pro swaps that for a boost footswitch, which De Gregorio noted makes it "a little more functional for live show applications"².

The enclosure

The Solaris Pro is part of Flattley's Platinum Range. All Platinum Range pedals are hand processed in the Flattley paint shop: a bare aluminum enclosure finished with etch primer, base coats, holographic chrome flake, hydro dipped graphics, and a minimum of three coats of wet sanded lacquer, hand polished to a high gloss finish².
