The GFI System Specular Reverb V3 is a compact stereo reverb pedal from Indonesian maker GFI System. It builds on the Specular Reverb V2, preserving that pedal's algorithms and sonic qualities while reworking how presets work and adding an expression input and a Kill Dry function1. It sits in GFI System's line of compact reverb pedals, and its V3 treatment follows the same pattern the maker applied to its Clockwork Delay V3: a simplified preset system plus an Expression / Tap-Tempo input2.

Seven reverb algorithms and eight presets

The V3 gives you 7 distinct reverb algorithms, each of which can be saved into any one of the 8 preset locations1. The presets are organized in two banks1. That is a deliberate change from the V2, which also had seven 24-bit modes and eight presets, but arranged its presets and modes into what Premier Guitar called "essentially... three banks"3.

Algorithms are selected using a single button and indicated by a multi-colored LED1. On the V2, four knobs governed each sound, with their parameters varying by mode3; the V3 carries the same knob-per-mode approach forward.

Two further features shape how the pedal behaves in use:

  • Spillover: when you bypass the pedal, the reverb tail is not abruptly cut off; it decays out naturally. The same applies when changing presets, as long as you stay in the same reverb mode1.
  • Auto Intensity Swell: engaging this slowly sweeps the parameter controlled by the Intensity knob to its maximum value, holds it there, then sweeps it back to the original setting1.

The dry signal is routed through a pure analog path (analog dry-thru), so your unprocessed guitar signal never goes through the digital conversion1.

The controls, inputs and outputs

The pedal runs in stereo, with 2 inputs and 2 outputs1. New in the V3 is an Expression / Tap-Tempo input that accepts a standard expression pedal or a tap-tempo signal1, which opens up real-time control of the effect without bending down to turn knobs.

8 presets in 2 banksStore any algorithm in any preset location1
Expression / Tap-Tempo inputAccepts a standard expression pedal or tap-tempo signal, new in V31
Stereo I/O2 inputs, 2 outputs1
Analog dry-thruDry signal routed through a pure analog path1
SpilloverReverb tail decays naturally on bypass and preset changes within the same mode1
Auto Intensity SwellSweeps the Intensity parameter to maximum, holds, then returns1
Kill DryAchieves a 100% wet signal, new in V31

What changed from V2

The short answer: the preset system, the expression input, and Kill Dry.

The V3 preserves the algorithms and sonic qualities of the award-winning Specular Reverb V2 while improving on it1. The preset system has been greatly simplified compared to the V2's three-bank arrangement13. The Expression / Tap-Tempo input and the Kill Dry function are both listed as new in the V31.

Kill Dry mutes the dry path entirely so the output is 100 percent wet reverb1. For players running parallel rigs, where a clean dry signal reaches the mixer on a separate path, this lets the pedal supply only the effect. GFI System used the same Kill-Dry idea on its Clockwork Delay v3, where it was likewise new to that version4.

The V2 itself was well received. Premier Guitar's quick-hit review described it as "the deceptively simple-looking Specular Reverb from Indonesian outfit GFI," noting its seven 24-bit modes, stereo ins and outs, and eight presets3. The V3 keeps that core and streamlines the experience around it.

Questions

What is new in the GFI System Specular Reverb V3?

The V3 keeps the algorithms and sonic qualities of the Specular Reverb V2 but greatly simplifies the preset system. It also adds an Expression / Tap-Tempo input that accepts a standard expression pedal or a tap-tempo signal, and a Kill Dry function for a 100 percent wet signal.

What does Kill Dry do on the Specular Reverb V3?

Kill Dry, new in the V3, mutes the dry signal so the output is 100 percent wet reverb. That is useful in parallel rigs, where you run a dry signal on another path and want the pedal to contribute only the effect.

Does the Specular Reverb V3 work in stereo?

Yes. The pedal has stereo I/O with two inputs and two outputs. The dry signal is routed through a pure analog path, so your unprocessed signal stays analog even when the reverb is digital.

Can the Specular Reverb V3 use an expression pedal?

Yes. The V3 adds an Expression / Tap-Tempo input that accepts a standard expression pedal or a tap-tempo signal. This input is one of the main differences from the V2, which did not have it.

What does Spillover do on the Specular Reverb V3?

With Spillover, when you bypass the pedal the reverb tail is not abruptly cut off; it decays out naturally. The same happens when you change presets, as long as you stay within the same reverb mode.
