The GUP Tech Moby Depth Spring Reverb Pedal Gold Rush Edition is a spring reverb pedal from GUP Tech, a small builder that makes all of its pedals in Saguenay, Québec, Canada. The Gold Rush Edition carries exactly the same circuit as the original Moby Depth, in what the maker calls a "super limited Gold box." Only two will ever exist, with pickup available at the GUP Tech shop, usually ready within 24 hours. The sale price was listed at £164.00 GBP1.
What it does
The Moby Depth is, in GUP Tech's words, "basically a spring reverb, but with many adjustments that make it unique among other reverb guitar pedals." The maker lists a tone shaping control among its features, which sets it apart from simpler spring reverb pedals with just a blend and a level2.
How the Gold Rush Edition compares
The Gold Rush Edition is one of several versions of the Moby Depth circuit1:
| Version | What sets it apart |
|---|---|
| Moby Depth | The original spring reverb pedal, with a tone shaping control2 |
| Moby Depth Douche Edition | Same circuit family, plus an RTN jack that "Receives Ouput of any effect pedal," letting you run effects inside the reverb loop3 |
| Gold Rush Edition | Exactly the same circuit as the original, in a super limited gold box; only two will ever exist1 |
The Douche Edition's RTN input is the practical difference to know about: it accepts the output of any effect pedal, so a player can place, for example, a delay or overdrive between the reverb's send and return and shape what feeds the spring. The Gold Rush Edition does not add that feature; its appeal is the circuit unchanged, in a two-unit run13.
The Gold Rush Edition keeps the Moby Depth circuit intact: GUP Tech states it is "exactly the same circuit as the original, in a super limited Gold box," and that "only two will ever exist"1. So the comparison with the standard Moby Depth comes down to the enclosure rather than the circuit: the Gold Rush Edition comes in a super limited Gold box, carries a sale price of £164.00 GBP, and is made by GUP Tech in Saguenay, Québec, Canada1.
