The GUP Tech Berry-Verb Douche is a compact reverb pedal from the Canadian maker GUP Tech. Its reverb parameters are adjusted with the P1, P2 and P3 knobs, and the volume knob can boost the output signal by up to 5 dB1.

Controls

The pedal keeps its panel small: three knobs set the reverb itself, one sets the blend, and one sets the level1.

ControlWhat it does
P1, P2, P3Adjust the reverb parameters; each of the 8 modes is paired with its own controls tagged P1-2-31
MixBlends dry and wet; allows a 100% wet signal1
VolumeSets the output level, with a boost of up to 5 dB1

The Mix knob's ability to run fully wet means the Berry-Verb Douche can sit at the end of a chain as a reverb unit with no dry signal passing through, which suits players who run a wet/dry setup or who want the reverb alone into a second amp1.

Power

The Berry-Verb Douche runs on a 9Vdc center negative supply and draws 63mA1. That is more than many compact pedals draw, so a supply output rated for at least 63mA is needed, and sharing it on a daisy chain with other pedals is not a good fit.

The pedal is listed as sold out. GUP Tech announced an ultra limited Douche Edition on 25 March 2023, with only two units available1. The company also makes the Berry-Verb V2 and the Moby Depth line, including a Douche Edition of that pedal.

The FV-1 chip

The FV-1 is Spin Semiconductor's DSP chip, and it was designed with reverb in mind. As the maker's retailer listing for an FV-1 based pedal puts it, "The Spin Semiconductor FV-1 chip is a complete reverb solution in a single IC"2. EarthQuaker Devices, in a technical piece on reverb circuits, made the same point from the designer's side: "The FV1 has a lot of capabilities for great-sounding reverbs, [because] that is what it was designed to do. There is a lot more room to play around and create cool new sounds"3.

That design brief is what makes an 8-mode reverb on a small pedal practical: the chip handles the reverb algorithms, and the maker's work goes into the mode selection and the P1-2-3 parameter sets that go with each one1.

Questions

Is the GUP Tech Berry-Verb Douche still available?

The Berry-Verb Douche is listed as sold out on GUP Tech's product page. It was offered as an ultra limited Douche Edition, announced on 25 March 2023, with only two units available. GUP Tech also makes a Berry-Verb V2, which may be the easier version to find.

What power supply does the Berry-Verb Douche need?

GUP Tech specifies a 9Vdc center negative power supply, with a power consumption of 63mA. Use a supply rated to deliver at least that current, and do not share it on a daisy chain with other pedals.

How many reverb modes does the Berry-Verb Douche have?

The Berry-Verb Douche has 8 different reverb modes. Each mode is paired with its own controls, tagged as P1, P2 and P3, which adjust the reverb parameters.

Does the Berry-Verb Douche use the same chip as the GUP Tech Widow?

Yes. GUP Tech says the Berry-Verb is made from the same FV-1 DSP chip as its Widow pedal. The FV-1 is Spin Semiconductor's DSP chip, designed specifically for effects such as reverb.

Can the Berry-Verb Douche run fully wet?

Yes. GUP Tech says the Mix knob allows a 100% wet signal, so the pedal can be used as a fully wet reverb unit with no dry signal passing through.
