The Poulp Douche is an octave up pedal from GUP Tech, built on the classic Green Ringer circuit. The maker says it will give any clean, distortion or fuzz a very nice octave up tone, and it does this with no knobs at all: the only control is an on-off switch. It comes in a small 1590A enclosure, one of the smallest standard pedal boxes, and it is a limited Douche edition, announced on 17 December 2022.1

Controls: on and off only

GUP Tech's product page is blunt about the layout: "No control, only an on-off switch."1 There is no level, tone or blend knob to set. The circuit produces its fixed octave up tone, and the footswitch turns it on or off. Players who want more control over how the octave sits in their sound would pair it with other pedals, for example a fuzz or overdrive before or after it, since the maker says it works with clean, distortion and fuzz signals alike.1

The Poulp Douche is listed as sold out on the maker's product page as of 26 October 2026.1

Power

The pedal runs on 9V DC center negative only and draws 2mA.1 That is a very small current draw, so it puts little demand on a shared or isolated power supply.

The Green Ringer circuit

GUP Tech describes the Poulp Douche as based on the classic Green Ringer.1 The Green Ringer itself is, in the words of a Coda Effects technical analysis, "a small, but efficient analog octaver circuit."2 It is an analog design that generates a note one octave above what you play, which is why the maker describes the pedal's output as an octave up tone rather than a pitch-shifted effect like a pitch shifter.

Poulp, BROctopus and PhoqueR

GUP Tech points players comparing options to two related pedals:

  • BROctopus: the bigger brother of the Poulp. It comes with the PPRSS switching system, which allows momentary operation, so the octave effect is active only while you hold the switch.1
  • PhoqueR: a better option, the maker suggests, if you want more in one box. It includes a Germanium Fuzz Face and a Green Ringer in the same enclosure.1

The Douche edition of the Poulp was announced on 17 December 2022, and the maker has since listed it as sold out, with the BROctopus positioned as the design to look at for the momentary option.1 For more pedals in this family, see the site's octave and pitch page.
