The GUP Tech SUN Gate Gold Rush Edition is a limited, one-off version of GUP Tech's SUN Noise Gate, a noise gate pedal built to quiet the hiss and hum between notes. The maker describes it as a "Unique Gold Rush edition of the SUN. Only one available!" and the pedal is listed as sold out on GUP Tech's product page. It was listed at a sale price of £120.00 GBP.1
Like the standard SUN, it is a compact pedal format, and the maker's page indicates a single-knob control layout, which GUP Tech frames in characteristically blunt terms: "This pedal, must-have for some, no-need-at-all for other, may have only one know".1 A one-knob gate is the simplest kind to use: one setting sets how hard the gate clamps down on the signal when you stop playing. For more control over threshold and decay, gates with more knobs, such as the MXR M135 Smart Gate or the Fortin Amplification Zuul, sit at the other end of the range. See the full range on the Noise Gate Pedals type page.
Where it sits in the SUN family
The SUN covered here is the Gold Rush Edition, a pedal from GUP Tech with a single knob. The maker describes it in characteristically blunt terms: "This pedal, must-have for some, no-need-at-all for other, may have only one know"1. It is listed as sold out1.
Since then, GUP Tech has released the SUN in a series of special editions12:
- Gold Rush Edition, the single-knob noise gate covered here, listed at £120.00 GBP and shown as sold out1
The Gold Rush Edition is a one-off. GUP Tech's page marks it sold out, so it will not reappear in the maker's regular lineup. Players looking for a current SUN-family gate would be looking at the standard SUN Noise Gate or whichever special edition is in production at the time.
Questions
What is the difference between the GUP Tech SUN and the GUUL?
GUP Tech says the SUN is the updated version of the GUUL noise gate, with the same features but an updated DSP chip. The SUN replaced the GUUL in July 2021, and the maker states the GUUL will never be offered again. The Gold Rush Edition is a special one-off version of the SUN.
Is the SUN Gate Gold Rush Edition still available?
No. GUP Tech's product page lists the Gold Rush Edition as sold out, and the maker describes it as a unique edition with only one unit available. Other SUN editions, such as the TDS Sun purple edition and the SUN Douche Neon, have appeared as separate special releases.
