The Spectral Fire is an overdrive pedal from Holy Island Audio, a compact builder of pedals. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson describes it as combining Bluesbreaker-inspired lower gain with Traynor solid state amp character, producing a sound he calls "bright, clangy, raw, ragged and gritty"1. It is one of the builder's Compact pedals, and as of October 2026 it is sold out2.
What it does
The pedal takes its character from two reference points: the Bluesbreaker-style lower-gain overdrive circuit family, and the sound of a Traynor solid state amp. Karlsson's review frames it as aimed at punk and garage rock tones, judging it a near perfect execution for that territory1.
Controls
The control set is straightforward, with a voicing switch doing much of the work1:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gain | Sets the amount of drive |
| Voicing switch | Selects Clear & Bright, or an additional grittier Gain Stage |
| Master Output | Sets overall output level |
| High, Mid, Low | 3-band EQ |
The two voicings sound distinctly different. In Karlsson's words, "'Clangy' is the best descriptor for the Bright voicing, and with the second Gain Stage applied you would probably say it" gets more raw and gritty1.
"With that 3-Band EQ it's actually really versatile - and you can dial out much of its core character if you wish"
That EQ is worth noting for players who find the pedal's natural edge too much: the reviewer found the 3-band EQ flexible enough to dial out much of the pedal's core character for a smoother, more bluesy sound1. For more on where this pedal sits in the wider field, see Overdrive Pedals.
Availability
The Spectral Fire is sold out. In an October 2026 post, Karlsson noted that "all 4 of my Compact Holy Island pedals are sold out - the Angel Teeth, Micro Mountain Mover, and Spectral Fire"2.
