The Horrothia FX TEETH is a discrete low-gain overdrive pedal: a low gain overdrive with a blend between completely clean and slight grit, built around a 9-transistor, all-analog design that uses no IC opamps, no modeling and nothing digital1. Instead of clipping a single signal, it runs two sides in parallel: a very transparent dry side and an "edge of breakup" wet side, mixed together at the output1.
What it does to your sound
Because the dry and wet signals stay separate until they are blended, the pedal can sit a layer of grit on top of an untouched clean tone rather than replacing it. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes the result as "Glassy cleans and edge of breakup infinitely combined"1. The two signals, the clean one and the edge-of-breakup overdriven one, are blended through the Saturation knob, which runs close to 100% overdrive at maximum and completely clean at zero, and also raises the overall gain as it turns up1. Full left is clean, full right is almost only overdrive with a hint of clean1.
Inside, there are two completely discrete transistor-based opamps using hand selected components, which the maker's press materials say is for tonal clarity1. Pedal of the Day's review of the original described it the same way: a 9-transistor, all-analog design with no IC opamps, no modeling and nothing digital2.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Saturation | Blends the clean and edge-of-breakup signals, from completely clean at zero to nearly all overdrive at maximum, while raising overall gain1 |
The original pedal carries a big on/off-style white switch in the center1.
The Mk2 and MKII X versions
The circuit's core approach has stayed consistent across the pedal's life. Horrothia describes the Teeth as a nine-transistor, all-analog design using no IC opamps, with no modeling and nothing digital in the signal path12. Its central control is the Saturation knob, which blends between the clean signal and the edge-of-break-up overdriven signal, running from completely clean at zero to close to 100% overdrive at maximum, and it also raises the overall gain1. Horrothia describes the resulting sound as glassy cleans and edge of break-up infinitely combined1.
The controls above describe the original TEETH. The current Teeth MKII X has a different, larger control set, so check which version you are reading about when comparing4.
